Greenspiration News
Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief.
Do justly, now.
Love mercy, now.
Walk humbly, now.
You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free
to abandon it.

"Planet or Death!" -- Bolivian President Evo Morales' Courageous
Speech at World People's Conference on Climate Change
Morales' choice of opening words as well as his convening of this
unprecedented global mobilization represents more than a greening of
revolutionary movements or a revolutionizing of green movements. It is
something even more ambitious: inspiring a new era in hemispheric and
global politics, one that fuses the best of indigenous, leftist,
labor, environmentalist and other movements in the effort to save
Pachamama (Mother Earth). The welcome from the president of the
Plurinational State of Bulibiya (Bolivia in Quechua) also marks
another stage in the remarkable rise of an indigenous former coca-
grower and immigrant (Morales migrated to Argentina in his youth) who
has become the de-facto leader of this hybrid global movement that
links the rights of humans to what organizers have coined the
“universal rights of Mother Earth.”

Help Oppose CANSEC, Canada's Top Weapons Bazaar!
This is a call for help! Please look over the list below to see how
you might participate in our campaign to expose and oppose CANSEC.
CANSEC is Canada's largest weapons trade exhibition, and it will be
held in Ottawa, June 2-3, 2010. Many thousands of buyers, sellers,
users and promoters of the latest military technologies will be
rubbing shoulders at this war industry extravaganza. Ottawa's
fairgrounds will be bristling with displays set up by hundreds of
companies to showcase cutting-edge military hardware used in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Gaza, and all-too-many other killing fields. Making a
killing on war has probably never been more lucrative.
There will be a rally for peace during the weapons bazaar in Ottawa on
June 2. Find out more and how you can be involved here: http://coat.ncf.ca/

Hallucinogens Have Doctors Tuning In Again
“Under the influences of hallucinogens,” Dr. Grob writes, “individuals
transcend their primary identification with their bodies and
experience ego-free states before the time of their actual physical
demise, and return with a new perspective and profound acceptance of
the life constant: change.”

National doc looking for interviewees
Greenspiration friends,
A national TV program is producing a documentary on the dangers of
antidepressants. They will be interviewing me to get Tooker's story.
They're looking for others to interview. Might you or someone you know
be interested in telling your story?
They'd like to interview someone who had one bad bout of the blues,
went on SSRIs and things went downhill after that. Someone who has not
had a long history of depression or mental illness.
If you or someone you know is interested in speaking with this
researcher, let me know and I'll pass you on.
Thanks for considering...

Anatomy of an Epidemic:
Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental
Illness in America
by Robert Whitaker
Anatomy of an Epidemic investigates a profoundly troubling question:
do psychiatric medications increase the likelihood that people taking
them, far from being helped, are more likely to become chronically
ill? In making a compelling case that our current psychotropic drugs
are causing as much—if not more—harm than good, Robert Whitaker
reviews the scientific literature thoroughly, demonstrating how much
of the evidence is on his side.

Transport Futures 2010: Leadership & Road Pricing Summit
Talking Tolls: What’s leadership got to do with it?
June 18, Toronto
Congestion charging. Priced networks. High Occupancy Toll Lanes.
These road pricing systems are being implemented around the world in
order to reduce congestion, fight climate change and generate revenues
for sustainable transportation infrastructure. But why would
politicians anywhere support road pricing in the face of widespread
opposition? How do they communicate road pricing benefits and costs to
the public? What can we learn from their experiences?
