Turning A Suburban Yard Into An Organic Farm
In this video, KVIE profiles Jules Dervaes, a man who has turned his
small suburban yard into a profitable organic farm. With the help of
his family, they now produce over 6,000 pounds of food annually on
their 1/10-acre land, though their goal is to hit 10,000 pounds. The
350 varieties of organic fruits and vegetables grown not only sustain
the Dervaes family, but the large surplus is sold to local restaurants
and catering companies.

Setting an example as to what's possible in city farming and
sustainability, the Dervaes family even makes their own bio-fuel for
their minimal vehicle usage.

Government and media smear tactics tar protesters
By Linda McQuaig

Given the abysmal state of things -- with no progress on climate
change, financial markets still operating as unregulated casinos and
oil continuing to surge freely into the gulf -- it's not surprising
that many people feel the world is being poorly managed. Millions
respond by drifting into apathy or hedonistic consumerism.
But there are others who are so passionate about the fate of the Earth
that they feel compelled to do more than shop. They want to object, to
let world leaders know they disapprove. These are the types of people
who plan to protest at the G20 summit later this month in Toronto.

Cancel Corporate Tax Cuts!

In 2007, the federal corporate tax rate was 22%; today it’s 19%. By
2013, Stephen Harper wants corporations to pay just 15% tax, which
will lead to an overall reduction in federal revenue of $13.7 billion
a year. This plan reflects core policies of the Harper Conservatives -
force a shrinking of government by reducing public revenues, and at
the same time give Bay St. and the Calgary oil barons the biggest
gifts possible.

Meanwhile, the Ontario government is planning to cut the provincial
corporate tax rate to 12%, with a further 2% reduction over the next
three years. That means provincial government revenues will have
decreased by $2.4 billion a year.

If you think there is something wrong with this picture - send a
message now to cancel the corporate tax cuts and invest in public
services. http://www.labourcouncil.ca/cctc/

The Canadian Women’s Health Network welcomes Katherine McDonald,
Executive Director of Action Canada for Population and Development, to

Permaculture is revolution disguised as gardening

We're thrilled to announce our first online permaculture basics course
- "Global Trends, Local Choices", available by sliding scale starting
at just ten dollars!

Jan Spencer has become a pioneer and advocate for suburban property
conversion. His 1/4 acre site in Eugene, after ten years, convincingly
shows what a suburban property can become. It features grass to food
forest, rain water catchment, reclaiming automobile space, passive
solar re-design, edible landscaping and much more. The implications of
suburban property conversion are immense touching on economics, human
potential, the environment and eco culture change.

Regular rate for this course is sixty dollars but if you sign up
before July 1st, you can pay a sliding scale fee starting at just $10!

Urban land use, economics, permaculture, human potential,
spirituality, global relations and the environment combine for a
unique fusion of Jan's interest.

We hope you will take the time to watch this powerful presentation.

Tracking the American Epidemic of Mental Illness - Part 2

The "literature is remarkably consistent in the story it tells,"
Whitaker told Levine. "Although psychiatric medications may be
effective over the short term, they increase the likelihood that a
person will become chronically ill over the long term."
"In addition, the scientific literature shows that many patients
treated for a milder problem will worsen in response to a drug-- say
have a manic episode after taking an antidepressant -- and that can
lead to a new and more severe diagnosis like bipolar disorder," he
said. "That is a well-documented iatrogenic pathway that is helping to
fuel the increase in the disability numbers."

National doc looking for interviewees

A national TV program is producing a documentary on the dangers of
antidepressants. They will be interviewing me to get Tooker's story.
They're looking for others to interview. Might you or someone you know
be interested in telling your story?
They'd like to interview someone who had one bad bout of the blues,
went on SSRIs and things went downhill after that. Someone who has not
had a long history of depression or mental illness.
If you or someone you know is interested in speaking with this
researcher, let me know and I'll pass you on.
Thanks for considering...

Three Feet Rule in Ontario: Do We Need it?

Is this a good law for Ontario? Yes it is. If every driver obeyed
this basic concept of giving space to cyclists, there would be a sharp
reduction in the number of cyclists killed and injured on our roads.
Statistics indicate that the majority of cyclist’s injuries and deaths
are caused at the time a vehicle passes.
