Italians say no to nuclear energy in referendum

Berlusconi said on Monday, "We must probably say goodbye to the possibility
of nuclear power stations and we must strongly commit ourselves to renewable
energy." Shares of Italian renewable energy companies rose after his
comments, made at a news conference.

Nuclear fuel has melted through base of Fukushima plant – “melt through”
described as “far worse than a core meltdown”

The nuclear fuel in three of the reactors at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear
plant has melted through the base of the pressure vessels and is pooling in
the outer containment vessels, according to a report by the Japanese
government. The findings of the report, which has been given to the
International Atomic Energy Agency, were revealed by the Yomiuri newspaper,
which described a "melt-through" as being "far worse than a core meltdown"
and "the worst possibility in a nuclear accident." Tepco said it is trying
to contain the contaminated water and prevent it from leaking into the sea,
but elevated levels of radiation have been confirmed in the ocean off the
plant. Studies have estimated that the cost of the accident at Fukushima may
rise as high as $250 billion over the next 10 years.

Japan may have no nuclear reactors running by next April

All 54 of Japan's nuclear reactors may be shut by next April, adding more
than $30 billion a year to the country's energy costs, if communities object
to plant operating plans due to safety concerns, trade ministry officials
said on Wednesday.

After Japan, Where's The Next Nuclear Weak Link?

Imagine a country where corruption is rampant, infrastructure is very poor,
or the quality of security is in question. Now what if that country built a
nuclear power plant?

It may sound alarming but that is what could happen in many developing
countries which are either building nuclear power plants or considering
doing so - a prospect that raises serious questions after Japan's experience
handling a nuclear crisis.

Why The Northern Saskatchewan Forum Voted To Ban Nuclear Wastes

The NWMO is following a two-track strategy in the north. On the one hand it
says that a community has to agree to “host” a nuclear dump; that there must
be “informed consent”. On the other hand it works behind the scene, with
multi-million dollar inducements, to make sure some people are already
benefitting, while sugar-coating a nuclear dump to sound good for the north.
Several Métis and First Nations leaders spoke eloquently about how NWMO’s
process is undermining the duty to consult. NWMO’s deceit is starting to
unravel.

Science doesn't back the campaign of fear on wind power, Sierra Club argues

Ottawa Sierra Club Canada has waded into the increasingly heated debate over
wind power in Ontario with a report that draws on scientific literature to
counter "a campaign of fear" from wind opponents. The report, titled The
Real Truth About Wind Energy, concludes there's "no evidence of significant
health effects" from wind power. "A link between well-sited wind turbines
and health concerns is unfounded," it flatly declares.

The Economic Impacts of the Wind Energy Sector in Ontario 2011 – 2018

The new report by Clearsky Advisors demonstrates the huge economic boost
Ontario is getting from the renewable energy sector - thanks to its
Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) program. Some highlights:

*	80,000+ person years of employment from 2011-2018 in the wind sector

*	38,000 Direct Jobs

*	42,000 Indirect Jobs

*	An incredible 5.6GW (nameplate) of wind energy will be added to the
Ontario grid by 2018 - for a total of 7.1GW in Ontario.

*	Wind will bring a total market value of $16.4 Billion - with over
8.5 Billion remaining in the province. That is $1 Billion per year staying
in Ontario.

*	$1 Billion in payments will be made to landowners over that time
frame

*	$245 Million paid in municipal taxes

Open Letter in Support of Ontario’s Green Energy Act and Feed-in-Tariff

Do you represent a business? We're asking businesses to sign the Open Letter
to Ontario’s political party leaders to save the feed-in-tariff program and
Samsung green energy deal. Ontario is poised to be a world leader in
renewable energy energy development, already creating more than 13,000 jobs
and millions of work hours for those in trades and construction. This is an
enviable position that we can ill-afford to jeopardize. Please sign the
letter and urge your associates to do the same. To read and sign it visit:
