No Nukes News

May 3, 2012 – Please pass this onto a friend!

It's almost a cliché to refer to a "paradigm shift," but that is what we
need to meet the challenge of the environmental crisis our species has
created. That means adopting a "biocentric" view that recognizes we are part
of and dependent on the web of life that keeps the planet habitable for a
demanding animal like us. – David Suzuki <http://bit.ly/InYdyh>

Six 45% of the increase in our electricity generation costs has been due to
subsidies for the nuclear industry, while only 6% of the increase is due to
subsidies for green energy.

<http://bit.ly/IEWG52> Nuclear Main Source of Increased Electricity Prices
in Ontario Nuclear advocates have blamed renewable energy for driving up
Ontario's electricity rates. A new report by the Ontario Energy Board tells
a different story: Nuclear has been responsible for 45% of recent increases
on your electricity bill. Meanwhile, the impact of renewables on your
electricity bill has been minor – about 6%.

but are the NDP Loud Enough Radio interview where Angela Bischoff brings the
strong case that our current means of producing electricity is way too
expensive. Change to renewable and save money and oh yea save the
environment too! Seems like a win win, but Angela explains what the barriers
are.

Act Now!

 <http://www.cleanairalliance.org/get_involved_order_pamphlets> Order our
new leaflet calling on the ON gov’t to halt their massive nuclear expansion
plans – they’re free and contain postcards
<http://www.cleanairalliance.org/files/OCAA_CutSomeWaste-web.pdf> to Energy
Minister Bentley asking him to favour lower-cost, safer and greener options.
Distribute them to your friends and neighbours.

<http://www.cleanairalliance.org/node/1059> Send an email to ON Energy
Minister Bentley and ask him to finish the coal phase-out in 2012 and invest
in energy conservation rather than build or rebuild new nukes.

Please <http://www.cleanairalliance.org/duncan_budget> email Ontario’s
Finance Minister Dwight Duncan and tell him that the electricity sector
review must include a “value for money” analysis of future supply options.
