A Good War - Mobilizing Canada for the Climate Emergency in BC
Mon. Sept. 14, 7 p.m. PST
In his book, author Seth Klein explores how we can align our politics and economy with what the science says we must do to address the climate crisis. But he brings an original and uniquely hopeful take to this challenge, based on lessons we can draw from the Second World War, when Canada faced a similarly existential threat. According to Seth, Canada’s wartime experience provides an inspirational reminder that we have done this before. We have mobilized in common cause across class, race and gender, and entirely retooled our economy in the space of a few short years. Join us for an evening of music, a reading, author Q&A, and a panel discussion with local climate emergency activists.

Bridging Jewish-Arab Divide
Tues. Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m. EST
Dr. Amal Elsana Alh’jooj believes that Jews and Arabs can build bridges of understanding towards one another to help resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And she believes this can be achieved through applying social work principles. Using the appropriate skills, she says, it is possible to liberate people from fear so that they have the confidence and self-esteem to move forward on issues that were once assumed intractable. A prominent Palestinian-Bedouin-Israeli and a feminist, Dr. Alh’jooj has a wealth of experience in helping the disempowered achieve equality and agency. She will share her thoughts on strategies that could be used to mobilize against West Bank occupation and contribute to a two-state solution. Hosted by Canadian Friends of Peace Now

Canada in the World is an accessible and empirically rich introduction to Canada’s engagements in the world since confederation.
