☢ Tell Ontario's political leaders and your MPP to say NO to a new nuclear reactor in the GTA and YES to renewables and conservation. Send your message here.

The World
☢ Nuclear energy isn’t a safe bet in a warming world – here’s why The overwhelming majority of nuclear power stations active today entered service long before the science of climate change was well-established. Two in five nuclear stations operate on the coast and at least 100 have been built just a few metres above sea level. Nuclear energy is, quite literally, on the frontline of climate change – and not in a good way.

☢ Germany’s nuclear phase out expected to be complete by 2022 as country cuts capacity by over 60% last decade Germany is phasing out nukes and fossils and replacing them with renewables.

☢ Let's Leave Nuclear Power In The Past Nuclear power is now seen as too slow, too expensive and too dangerous, something no one wants to see being built near their home or town. Regardless of what the nuclear industry itself wants, renewables are defining themselves not only as the cheapest, but also as the only meaningful energy proposal for the future.
☢ The Atom: A Love Affair – Canadian Premiere Feature length documentary about the history of the nuclear industry. Available for viewing until Sunday July 11.

☢ Panel Discussion about the Rise and Dangers of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors in Canada Recording of 90 min. webinar held June 28, 2021. Watch the full webinar or shorter clips:
- Susan O’Donnell on SMNRs
- Brennain Lloyd on nuke waste in Canada
- Gordon Edwards on the connection between nuke power and weapons

☢ Do Big Nuclear and SMRs Have a Place in the Climate Crisis? 75 min webinar recording with Gordon Edwards and Angela Bischoff

☢ Radiation/Radioactivity: Podcast with Dr. Gordon Edwards and Joseph Mangano

☢ Did Fukushima Prove Nuclear Can't Be Safe? A nuclear accident anywhere is a nuclear accident everywhere. With Kevin Kamps. More here.
☢ Living With Chernobyl: Personal stories from the world's worst nuclear disaster 75 min. webinar recording

Ontario
☢ Double your power to help Ontario be a climate leader Please make a double-power donation today to the Ontario Clean Air Alliance and help us take the next big step toward a 100% renewable energy future. Thank you!

☢ There is No Time to Waste – Phase Out the Gas Plants by 2030 With climate change baring its teeth with record-smashing temperatures, action is urgent. The sooner the IESO gets the message that gas must go the better.

Renewables and Conservation
☼ ‘Virtual power station’ created by UK Power Networks New contracts will provide “flexible” electricity generation equivalent to a gas-fired power plant or nuclear station. More than two thirds of the new capacity will come from using electric vehicles’ batteries and smart charging when they are hooked up to the power networks.

☼ California Grid Rethinks Benefit of Energy Efficiency for Environment, Equity Goals California is changing the way it values energy efficiency, calculating the “total system benefit” of conservation programs to include environmental and equity goals as well as economic savings on reduced energy use.

Take Action
☢ Tell Ottawa: no more funding for new nuclear reactors Tell federal Ministers to stop wasting our $ on polluting nuclear reactors.

☢ Tell the CNSC to put safety before OPG's profits The CNSC must put a moratorium on the continued operation of the Pickering nuclear station until OPG has submitted proper safety data.

☢ Say no to new nuclear in the GTA Tell Ontario's political leaders that you want investments in wind and solar energy, not a new GTA nuclear reactor.

☢ Decommission the Pickering Nuclear Station immediately after shutdown in 2024 This would provide a jobs transition for the workers and would reclaim the Pickering waterfront.

☢ Tell Canada's Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland: Don't Subsidize New Nuclear Once again, the federal government is planning to waste taxpayers dollars on a new nuclear technology which is far more hype than substance with no working prototypes in Canada. Send her a letter here.

☢ Nuclear waste should not be buried underground in Ontario The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is proposing a deep geological repository to abandon spent nuclear fuel bundles underground in South Bruce, Ontario. Support the community in their request for a referendum.

☢ Say no to nuclear waste in Labrador The citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador do not want to be the nuke waste dump for the world.

☢ International Petition Against the Discharge of Contaminated Water from Fukushima into the Sea And here's another.
