Faculty Club, 41 Willcocks St, U of T

This new edition of Mind Abuse, written by Rose Dyson, covers developments in the last twenty years, showing how the problem of media violence has grown with each new technological innovation and how relentless marketing victimizes countless young people around the world while the entertainment industry rakes in billions. Rose A. Dyson offers a wake-up call to parents, teachers, health professionals, and policy makers who deal with the aftermath of first-person shooter video gaming and social media abuses, such as cyberbullying, that encourage errant behavior from an early age.

Stop the TMX & CGL Pipelines! Protest Action

Thur. Oct. 20, 4 p.m. PT

Intersection of Lougheed Highway + Production Way (Production Way-University Skytrain Station). Burnaby, BC

>From wildfires and severe drought in BC, to devastating floods in Pakistan and hurricanes in the Caribbean, the climate emergency is everywhere. Despite this, the Trudeau gov't continues to press ahead with the construction of the Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) pipeline. On top of the environmental disaster it imposes, the TMX pipeline also comes at a huge cost to taxpayers, who are already on the hook for at least $17 B of TMX debt, according to a report just released by economist Robyn Allen and West Coast Environmental Law. Meanwhile, drilling for the Coastal GasLink (CGL) fracked gas pipeline began under the Wedzin Kwa (Morice River) on Wet’suwet’en territory in Northern B.C. in early October. The federal Liberal government and B.C. NDP government continue to give lip service to environmental concerns and Indigenous rights — while pressing ahead with massive resource extraction projects which completely disregard both. Join Climate Convergence as we set up at this busy rush hour Intersection with signs, banners, and hand out information about the TMX and CGL pipelines and fighting back against the climate crisis! System Change Not Climate Change!

How To Speed Up Zero-Emissions Vehicle Adoption in Your Municipality

Fri. Oct. 21, 1 - 2 p.m.

Any effective municipal response to the climate crisis needs to address transportation as a leading source of emissions, and any sustainable transportation strategy needs to enable the rapid adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEV). But how can municipalities leverage their authority and community connections to accelerate ZEV uptake? And which programs and policies should they prioritize?
