Ford government passes bill to remove 3 Toronto bike lanes
Yonge, University and Bloor streets will see bike lanes removed as vehicle lanes are reinstated. The bill also protects the government from lawsuits relating to cyclist injury and death after the lanes are removed. The bill puts the brakes on Toronto’s plans to massively expand the city’s bike lane network over the next three years.

Legislation that guides road design must prioritize safety over travel times
Bicycle lanes benefit all road users, and it is much preferable to prevent motor vehicle trauma than to try to treat it.

Grassy Narrows Blockade - 22 year anniversary
Mon. Dec. 2
Grassy Narrows First Nation in NW Ontario has won incredible victories as a result of the longest-running blockade in Canadian history, such as saving 15 million trees through their work. However, they still face new and pressing threats to their way of life. There are 10,000 mining claims in the area of interest, proposed nuclear waste storage upstream from the river they depend on, and the Dryden Mill continues to put effluent into the Wabigoon River, worsening the mercury crisis. Watch and share their new 2 min. video.

The UN SDGs were heralded as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people would enjoy peace and prosperity. While each of the seventeen goals sounds great in theory, the politics that envelop their implementation is not at all harmonious.

Rising Fascism and Rising Hate. White folks: what can we do to organize our people?
Thur. Dec. 5, 8 p.m. ET
With Trump’s re-election we have been forced once again to confront the mass appeal of right wing politicians. Hateful rhetoric and violent threats, plans for mass deportations, racism, xenophobia, sexism, transphobia are all baked into promises for improved lives and a better country. But we aren’t separate from this here in Canada. Poilievre is gaining popularity, just as the Trudeau government announces sweeping cuts to longstanding immigration targets. These are horrifying times for anyone who cares about racial and social justice, and they are dangerous, violent and potentially deadly for Black, Indigenous, racialized and poor communities. White folks: what can we do to organize our people?

Build Bikelands, not Highways
Sat. Dec. 7, 2 p.m.
High Park, North Gates on Bloor
Ride en mass from High Park to protest outside the office of MPP Christine Hogarth, PC MPP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore. Or join us at her office at 3 p.m., 195 Norseman St.
We're protesting the draconian Bill 212! This bill will attack bike lanes under municipal jurisdiction, and push through Highway 413 without environmental assessment or Indigenous consultation. In the middle of a climate crisis, the Ford government is paving over the Greenbelt to make room for more cars, more congestion, and more carbon emissions!
