IEA Boosts Renewables Forecast by Two-Thirds, Projects 2.7x Surge by 2030

“Renewables are moving faster than national governments can set targets for. This is mainly driven not just by efforts to lower emissions or boost energy security—it’s increasingly because renewables today offer the cheapest option to add new power plants in almost all countries around the world.” - IEA

Noise Cameras: A Sound Investment

Mon. Oct. 21, noon ET

SoundVue Noise Cameras are in use in eight cities across three continents, including New York City. Three more cities in the US should be online before the end of the year. SoundVue systems are actively ticketing loud vehicles, and the tickets are holding up in court. The City of Toronto should purchase the technology - let's advocate for that during the public budget consultations this month.

The Many Can Defeat the Money

Tues. Oct. 22, 7 pm ET

Across Canada the crises we face are multiplying, from devastating floods and fires to a soaring cost of living and a crumbling health care system, Yet, while we bear the brunt, Canada’s billionaires have pocketed an extra $78 billion since the pandemic began – extracting wealth and resources away from our communities. Meanwhile, Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives are using our pain to rise in the polls, fanning the flames of division while they serve the corporate class. Council of Canadians is hosting a roundtable with movement activists and analysts to discuss how we build people power to take on corporate greed – so that the many can defeat the money. Hosted by Council of Canadians.

Rally & Ride for Road Safety

Wed. Oct. 23, 5 p.m. ET

Queens Park, Toronto

Reports have come out that the Ontario gov't wants to severely limit the ability of Toronto and other cities to expand their networks of safe and protected bike lanes. Help us tell the province that we love our communities’ bike lanes, and we don't want the province saying where they can or can't be built because:

- Bike lanes are good for business

- They’re good for the environment

- They’re good for public and personal health

- They give us freedom and mobility

- Bike lanes save lives

This event is being co-organized by a coalition of cycling and road safety advocates.

Pipeline to Nowhere: Indigenous-led Resistance to PRGT and Ksi Lisims LNG

Wed. Oct. 23, 8:30 p.m. ET

The Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project is a new fracked gas pipeline planned for northern B.C. It’s a carbon bomb on the scale of Coastal GasLink, it threatens salmon, lands and waters, and it does not have the consent of communities along the route. Construction began in August, but resistance is mounting. Gitanyow hereditary chiefs have blocked pipeline traffic from their land for the last six weeks. And a new blockade camp is up and running on Gitxsan territory. Three different legal challenges are in the works, and pressure is building on provincial politicians ahead of a major decision in November about the fate of the project.
