They won’t tell you these truths about nuclear energy

Despite reams of peer-reviewed studies and books showing radiation’s harmful effects, there is persistent denialism that seems impervious to fact-checking.

ONTARIO

Keep our power in Canada – expand the east-west grid

Now is not the time to increase our economic dependency on the U.S. as ON's premier is calling for. Instead, we should be investing in renewable energy and expanding our east-west electricity grid to create jobs, keep our power in Canada, and lower our electricity bills.

Ontario election 2025: Doug Ford’s plan to deliver us from gridlock won’t end congestion, experts say

Since first elected Ontario premier seven years ago, Ford has made drivers a priority with projects including widening parts of Hwy 401, building Hwy 413, promising to eliminate tolls on Hwy 407, a new highway tunnelled under the 401, and ripping up bike lanes.

Ontario patients can't take another 4 years of health care cuts, closures, shortages & privatization

Ontario funds our public health care at the lowest rate in Canada. Every service that has been cut has been privatized. It’s not a coincidence, it is the plan.

Nuclear Waste Unleashed: NWMO’s Integrated Strategy for Radioactive Waste

Tues. Feb. 11, 7 p.m. ET

In 2020 the Minister of Natural Resources asked the Nuclear Waste Management Organization to develop a strategy for the management of low and intermediate level waste for his “review and consideration”. Two years later, the NWMO delivered its strategy which places the nuclear industry fully in charge, with the NWMO leading the charge for an additional deep geological repository and all other players positioned to create an unspecified number of “near surface disposal facilities”. Action will gear up in March with the NWMO delivers its siting plan for another DGR, this one for intermediate and high-level wastes.

Fund Our City: Toronto Budget Rally

Tues. Feb. 11, noon - 1 p.m. ET

Toronto City Hall, Nathan Phillips Square, Queen and Bay, Toronto

On Feb. 11, Toronto City Council will be voting on the 2025 City Budget. Social Planning Toronto and partners are organizing a community rally outside City Hall to let Council know this is no time for cuts. This year's proposed budget includes increased investments into vital community services such as affordable housing, transit, and a student nutrition program, but this funding won’t be guaranteed unless City Council votes to support it. It’s time to send a strong message: we need to fund a city where everyone can thrive.

Beyond the Shock Doctrine: Conversation on Tariffs, Climate and Solidarity

Wed. Feb 12, 7 pm ET

Climate crisis. Eroding social safety net. Colonialism. The rise of xenophobia and the far right. Just when we thought things couldn’t get worse, US broligarchs unleashed the threat of tariffs on the Canadian economy, leading to economic anxiety and corporate profiteering. Corporate-aligned governments of all stripes are profiting off this moment to promote further resource extraction, deregulation and deportations. What does a people-first response to this moment look like, and how can it cut through all the noise? Featuring Naomi Klein, Co-Director of the Centre for Climate Justice, Syed Hussan, Executive Director of the Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, and Lubicon Cree advocate Melina Laboucan-Massimo, founder and Executive Director of Sacred Earth Solar. Hosted by Climate Action Network Canada and the UBC Centre for Climate Justice
