The nuclear industry deliberately hides its radiation dangers
Of all the dangers of reckless nuclear boosterism, the most insidious is disinformation concealing and denying nuclear’s past, present and future harms while wildly exaggerating its benefits.

Canadian Political Leaders, Will You Give it Up for the Earth?!
I join others of faith and conscience in urging Canada to:
Eliminate all forms of fossil fuel subsidies, which amounted to at least $28.5 billion in 2024.[3]
Triple Canada’s climate finance contributions to $15.9 billion annually.
Endorse the Jubilee 2025 petition’s calls to cancel unjust debt and facilitate global financial reforms to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis on Global South countries.

Doug Ford: Rip up the GE-Hitachi US nuclear contract
To Protect Ontario we need to invest in Made-in-Canada wind and solar energy and storage, and work with Quebec to expand our east-west electricity grid - not tie us into high cost nuclear projects that require US technology and US fuel.

Ontario election results: what Doug Ford’s third win means for the environment
https://thenarwhal.ca/ontario-election-results-2025/
Most Ontarians didn’t vote for Doug Ford. The government’s priorities must reflect that fact
In last week’s Ontario election, Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative party received 43% of the popular vote, while 53% of voters supported the Liberals, the NDP or the Greens. For the third election in a row, the PCs won a majority government while most people voted for a different set of priorities.

Stop the PRGT Pipeline, Stand Up to Trump
Mon. March 10, 5:30 pm PT
American billionaires want the B.C. government to fast-track approval of the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) line to boost their profits and support Trump’s plan to “drill, baby, drill.” PRGT is a proposed fracked gas pipeline planned for northern B.C. It does not have consent from multiple Indigenous communities along the route. Building the project would worsen climate change and destroy precious salmon rivers. It would also hand over control to companies with close ties to Trump. The provincial government will decide the fate of this pipeline in April, which gives us six weeks to convince them that approving PRGT is not the way to stand up for B.C. Join us to hear what’s at stake if PRGT is built, learn about Indigenous-led clean energy alternatives, and find out how you can take action to protect communities and the climate from this American-backed pipeline.

Women, Peace and Security - Policy Solution for Climate and Gender Nexus
Mon. March 10, 2:30pm-4:00pm ET
Online and In-Person at Church Centre of the United Nations, 777 United Nations Plaza, New York
This workshop aims to empower participants with practical tools to implement gender-sensitive disarmament education within local and national frameworks. By examining how climate change, nuclear disarmament, and gender equality intersect, we can foster feminist policy solutions through Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) frameworks. This integration of a gendered approach to disarmament education offers feminist policy solutions and educational tools to implement in a local context in light of transnational problems of nuclear weapons and climate change-—issues that disproportionately affect women’s mental and physical health. This interactive workshop will be delivered in partnership with the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Canada.

The Use and Misuse of History in Russia and Everywhere Else
Mon. Mar. 10, 12:15 ET
In our lifetime, history has evolved from an academic pursuit or enjoyable reading into a powerful political instrument. Activists around the world vandalize monuments to past heroes, divergent historical interpretations fuel domestic and international conflicts, and Russian President Vladimir Putin even justified his decision to attack Ukraine with an extensive history lecture. In this lecture, Professor Ivan Kurilla will explore the roots of this newfound obsession with history, linking it to the crisis facing large nation-states striving to maintain control over their historical narratives.

Remembering Fukushima
Tues. March 11
On March 11 we remember the lives of Japanese people who continue to be disrupted due to the catastrophic nuclear triple meltdown at Fukushima, Japan. As Japan struggles with the decades-long clean up still ahead of them, we remember that there is no solution to the problem of high-level radioactive waste and that nuclear energy is the wrong choice for people and the planet. We remember the many failed attempts at comebacks by the nuclear industry and their dependence on taxpayer subsidies. May we use this commemoration to recommit to a safe, clean nuclear-free future for our children and all the children of the Earth.

Killer Water: Film Screening
The toxic legacy of Canada's oil sands industry for Indigenous communities
Wed. March 12, 6:30 reception, 7:30 film followed by discussion
Innis College, 2 Sussex Ave, U of T
In the middle of the Boreal Forest, toxic waste from oil production fills giant reservoirs that the industry refers to as tailings "ponds." The toxic “ponds” scar the landscape, threaten the Athabasca watershed and imperil Indigenous communities living nearby. Killer Water, by award-winning journalist Brandi Morin and filmmaker/director Geordie Day delves deep into the heart of this environmental crisis that plagues the Alberta oil sands, uncovering hidden truths that have long been ignored. Through stunning visuals and powerful narratives, Morin and Day take viewers on a journey through Fort Chipewyan that highlights the injustices faced by the Indigenous community living in the shadow of this industrial development.

Regenerating Rainforests by Listening to Communities
Wed. Mar. 12, 2 p.m. ET
Health In Harmony is an international non-profit organization with a mission to regenerate rainforests by listening to communities. Our method is Radical Listening. Since 2007, we have spent hundreds of hours listening to rainforest communities across Indonesia, Madagascar, and Brazil. Specifically, we have listened to their answer to the question, “What would you need as a thank-you from the global community to be able to protect your forest?” The answers have been different everywhere, but three key themes emerged across geographies: access to high-quality healthcare, training in alternative livelihoods, and support for youth education.
