92.5% of New Power Capacity Added to the Grid Worldwide in 2024 Was from Renewables
This is not even a competition anymore. 558 GW of renewables were added to grids in 2024, mostly solar and wind power. Together they are powering down the fossil fuel age. Nuclear, on the other hand, added just 4.1 GW in 2024.

Nuclear vs. renewables
Ontario will spend $21 B + on 4 untested American nuclear reactors that require American fuel - but Canadian renewables would be a fraction of the cost, risk and waste - learn more and send your letter to Ford here.

Why Mobility Transitions Do Not Start with Mobility
Tues. May 13, 11 a.m. ET
Prof. Meredith Glaser, The Netherlands, explores the transformation of urban mobility by challenging the car-centric paradigm and reimagining streets as spaces for life, health, and social equity. Breaking Through the Chaos: Climate Action That Wins Now
Wed. May 14, 7 p.m. ET
Federal action has never been the only tool in our shared climate action toolkit. Right now, we are not spinning our wheels, trying to guess the next moves of certain erratic leaders, or “waiting and seeing” until after the next election. Stand.earth is doubling down on strategies we know work - and a few new ideas that are already gaining traction.
Join Stand.earth Executive Director Todd Paglia, and Senior Campaigns Directors Liz McDowell and Shayda Edwards Naficy to hear why litigation, corporate campaigns, and local policy are the next big plays to fight climate change. We’ll share case studies of recent wins from each strategy - including stories, stats, and photos - and give you a sneak peek at what’s next in the Stand playbook.

Tracing Tides: How Major Carbon Producers Drive Sea Level Rise and Climate Injustice
Wed, May 14, 4 - 5 p.m. ET
Nearly half of the increase in present-day average surface temperature and one-third of present-day sea level rise can be traced to emissions from the 122 largest fossil fuel producers and cement manufacturers, according to new peer-reviewed research by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS). These big polluters, known as the carbon majors, have locked in as much as 22 inches of global sea level rise by 2300. Learn more about how carbon majors' past emissions are driving current global warming and future sea level rise.

Just Transition Rising
May 14 - 15
Just Transition Rising is a two-day online gathering bringing together union leaders, grassroots organisers, campaigners, and policy advocates to explore how justice can be placed at the heart of climate action. From lived experience to structural change, we’ll spotlight - through panels and breakout sessions - how justice is being fought for on the ground, and ensure those demands are heard on the road to COP30. Through bringing together diverse voices - from striking metalworkers to Indigenous leaders, from public sector unions to land and water defenders - we will connect movements, align strategies, and build collective power for a just transition rooted in equity, solidarity, and hope.

Derailing Dignity
Fri. May 16th opening reception, exhibit viewable till May 28
Whippersnapper Gallery, 594 Dundas St W, Toronto
Derailing Dignity reflects on the experience of migrant workers who deliver food using bikes in Toronto. The intent of the work is to zoom in on the particular intersection of both gig work and migrant labour, holding room for the many ways in which dignity is far removed from the very hands of those that feed us.
