Let's Get Healthy Together!
The internet is virtually a treasure trove of information on healthy
alternatives in mental health treatment. For anyone who has time to read,
following is a list of the best articles that I found on the web that have
assisted me in my own mental health recovery. It is good to bookmark these
articles and download them to read offline or print them out for a general
guide. Most of them focus on diet and nutrition. If you know of other
helpful articles, please post.
Although I am still in the process of withdrawing completely from the
psychiatric drugs after many years of experiencing terrible side effects,
I want to recommend to anyone in this process to please come off the psych
drugs very slowly and carefully and please find a supportive health care
professional, if possible. It is very easy to fall back into the trap of
mania and/or depression and this is nothing to take lightly. If you decide
to continue taking prescription medications, it is wise to find a psych
doctor who will help you maintain the lowest possible doses with the least
possible side effects. I am not a medical professional and this is not
medical advice, but I do speak from years of experience in the mental
health system, after experiencing Tardive Dyskinesia from the side effects
of the psych drugs -- You can get better with enough vitamins and whole
foods.
It is my wish that these articles will encourage readers to pursue health
as much as possible. Hopefully these articles will give you a good
overview of positive mental health recovery. It is possible to get off
meds and still feel good. Another good resource is a book by a
nutritionist called "Depression Free, Naturally" by Joan Mathews-Larson,
founder of <http://www.healthrecovery.com/>Health Recovery Center. This
book is a wonderful reference for many different mood disorders.
Best of luck in your recovery,
Denise
