The Louis Riel Bolivarian Circle of Toronto,  Hands Off Venezuela and
Venezuela We Are With You, are pleased to host an evening with  Rights
Action to hear about how mining projects in Latin America are having a
destructive impact on communities.

The speaker, Dawn Paley, is an independent journalist and organizer from
Vancouver, currently based in San Marcos, Guatemala. She has been
researching and writing about the effects of Canadian and U.S. mining
projects on the development, enviro- and human rights of people in
Southern Mexico, Central and South America for the last five years. Dawn
writes for the Dominion Paper, and  recently contributed to "Extraction!";
a graphic novel about Canadian extractive companies around the world.

Day" (a day designated for mining corporations to lobby our politicians.
With Students Against Climate Change / Protest Barrick Toronto, and other
groups. The issues include:

- Sharbot Lake and uranium mining
- the threat of nuclear energy
- Mining in Canada (focus on Barrick Gold, Sharbot Lake and failure of
voluntary CSR)
- Indigenous rights and land claims
- the draconian Mining Act
- the fact that Mining Day should not be occurring

Wed. March 19 - International Mining Day lecture at U of T, 7 p.m. U of T
campus, location TBA. Documentary footage from Sharbot Lake and talk guest

for GMOs in the European Union context with respect to identifying
important lessons that can be adopted by Canada.

Catherine Tsatoumas is completing her LLM in International Environment Law
at University of Ottawa, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Civil Law Section.
She holds the National Law Program (LLL/LLB) from University of Ottawa, a
B.B.A. from HEC Montreal, an International Baccalaureate from Collège
Jean-de Brébeuf in Montreal and a Certificate of Comparative and
International Environmental Law from University of Montreal. She is
currently with Donald R. Good & Associates in Ottawa, has completed legal
training at both the Environment Protection Office & Legal Services of
Environment Canada and has completed an internship at the Jean Monnet in
European Integration of University of Montreal’s CERIUM.

About His Holiness Devamrita Swami

Devamrita Swami is a Yale graduate, an author of several books on Vedic
knowledge and has been practicing spirituality for over 4 decades. A
contemporary thinker and a Global spiritual teacher, he is visiting
Toronto from the 10th to the 20th of April and will be presenting at
various forums. He is known for his in-depth understanding of Vedic
Sciences and his presentations on raising Environmental consciousness. He
has recently presented three seminars in Australia and New Zealand.

He has authored several books, including The Perfect Escape, Searching for
Vedic India and Fast Forward - Beyond the Barriers of Limited Science. He
is a regular speaker at Universities such as Yale, Melbourne University,
RMIT, UCLA and Indian Institute of Technology to name a few. Last year he
presented on the topic of 'Spiritual Economics' at Rotman School of
Business, University of Toronto and it was a huge success.

values that lead towards peace and sustainability. In between are many
useful workshops and a vegetarian lunch.
