URGENT CALL FOR SUPPORT:

Early morning Sept. 1, police raided a land protection site in Brantford
that was being held by grassroots activists from Six Nations. Currently,
3 people are in jail with at least 5 more surrounded by cops. The are
asking that support come to the site in the way of people, and supplies.

The site in Brantford, on Fen Ridge Court at the Oak Park Road exit of
the 403 is the same one that was originally shut down by Floyd and Ruby
Montour in the winter, and was also shut down by representatives from
the Confederacy Council in July, and again by the Haudenosaunee Men's
Fire earlier this month.

A group has maintained the site beside the Hampton Inn development site
in a tepee for over 50 days, upholding the declaration put forward by
the Men's Fire that these sites should be shut down pending settlement
of outstanding land disputes. Further, all three sites that have been
targeted from the tepee-base camp have been sited as posing ecological
threats; the Fen Ridge industrial development area is located in an
environmentally sensitive area less than a kilometer from the Grand River.

A callout for support has been sent from activists at Six Nations.

To get to the site:
take the 403 to Brantford, exit at Oak Park Road, turn left at the T
junction off the exit, then take the first right onto Fen Ridge; the
site should be evident across from the Proctor and Gamble distribution
facility (look for the tepee and flags).

Questions call: 519 717 7099

What is needed most is a straightforward showing of support and a
presence on site.

All Power To the People! Graphics of the Black Panther Party 1966 - 1974

Exhibition Dates: September 11 to October 11, 2008

Opening Reception: Thursday, September 11 at 8 pm. The opening is being
held in conjunction with the release of Fuse Magazine's Fall issue, which
features an interview with Black Panthers Minister of Culture and graphic
artist Emory Douglas.

Toronto Free Gallery
1277 Bloor Street West
Toronto, ON M6H 1N7
416-913-0461
www.torontofreegallery.org

Toronto Free Gallery is pleased to present the Canadian premiere of All
Power To the People: Graphics of the Black Panther Party 1966 -
1974, an exhibition organized by Heather Haynes and Izida Zorde.

" The community (was) the museum for our artwork. Some people saw art
for the first time when they saw my posters. Some joined the party, some
got inspired to make art too."
-Emory Douglas, Minister of Culture, Black Panther Party

All Power to the People! features Black Panther Party posters and
newspaper graphics produced in the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition
highlights the artistry of Emory Douglas, and documents the Panthers'
involvement with a broad array of causes, including opposition to the
Viet Nam War and solidarity with the United Farm Workers movement. With
documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), All
Power to the People! also illustrates efforts of the United States
government to destroy the Panthers as part of wide-spread efforts to
stifle oppositional political movements. The social programs of the
Panthers and the powerful images of armed party members had a strong
impact on the public consciousness of the time, and their efforts to
combat the oppression of
racism and poverty continue resonate today.

Changing of the Seasons Gathering in Temagami

Friday September 12th - Monday September 15th, 2008
Obabika Lake, Temagami

Over the weekend of September 13th, Alex Mathias, an Ojibway elder, will
host his annual ceremony to mark the fall equinox on his traditional
family territory in the Temagami region of Ontario. It will be a weekend
of wilderness camping, solidarity and learning about the old-growth
forests that make Temagami unique.

On Saturday there will be a 'Changing of the Seasons' ceremony, guest
speakers, a potluck lunch, visits to Spirit Rock, and guided hikes through
the old-growth forest. Attendees have the option of participating in group
events after the ceremony, exploring the area on their own, or simply
enjoying some quiet time on the lake. Other optional activities may
include a sweat lodge and tree climbing workshops. There is no structured
agenda for the weekend and Sunday is an open day which could include a
guided canoe excursion for those who are interested.

Participants are expected to provide their own food and gear. Earthroots
will be renting canoes for people who don't have access to their own and
this cost will be shared between the group. Most people will be located at
the main campsite on the north end of Obabika Lake where the ceremony will
take place. Some basic paddling experience is required.

Earthroots will be organizing carpools for people located in the GTA
(leaving Toronto Friday AM and then heading back from Temagami Monday AM).
If you need a ride or you have a vehicle with space for others, let us
know. Please be aware that the last stretch of the drive is very rough
and slow going (directions will be provided once you have registered).

Last year's event was the biggest yet with over 100 participants including
a crew from CityTV. You can
<http://earthroots.org/lists/lt.php?id=fkkHAgABCg0YCQZaSFdQBQU%3D>view
photos of last year's gathering in the gallery section of the Earthroots
website.

For more information or to register, please contact Mike McIntosh at
<mailto:mike at earthroots.org>mike at earthroots.org / 416-599-0152 x0.

There will be a nominal fee based on the costs to run the event.

The Ontario Clean Air Alliance is launching a major new campaign:
Ontario's Green Future, for a 100% renewable electricity grid by 2027.
<http://www.ontariosgreenfuture.ca/>www.ontariosgreenfuture.ca The first
step is the Nuclear Cost Responsibility Act, to ensure we see the true
costs of this expensive and risky option for Ontario.  To achieve our
goal, we'll need a substantial effort and help from a large team of Green
Future Volunteers.

The Alliance is looking for people to canvass door-to-door downtown
Toronto in pairs to gain support for our petition. The petition is the
campaign's first step in building a case towards an Ontario that moves
away from traditional large sources of power to instead invest in
conservation and sustainable sources. And there is urgency to our
actions.

You can sign up to volunteer here:

For those outside of Toronto, there are other ways to volunteer by
organizing letter-writing, petition signing or events in your area.
Please contact me to determine how you can help.

Those who take part will gain experience and a reference for their
participation. Canvassing will be an opportunity to meet new people who
have similar interests, and a good way to get involved in something
tangible and local. It's also an excellent way to become engaged in the
political process.
