WHERE IS CUBA GOING?
DATE: Tuesday, June 9th, 7 p.m.
PLACE: Ryerson University Oakham House (A/B room) 63 Gould Street
INFO: canada at handsoffvenezuela.org, www.handsoffvenezuela.org
Both the friends and the enemies of Cuba realized that the island
stands at a crossroads. Currently, there is an intense discussion in
Cuba about which way forward, especially after Obama's recent
statements. Some look to so-called economic "liberalization" through
the tourism industry, others promote the Chinese model, while many
look to increased ties to Venezuela and the strengthening of socialism.
Jorge Martin, the international secretary of the Hands Off Venezuela
campaign, is a participant in this important discussion. He has
visited the island numerous times to speak at the Havana book fair,
he has discussed with Cuban intellectuals and people, and has written
extensively on Cuban politics. He believes that the fates of both the
Cuban and Venezuelan revolutions are tied together and that we must
build a united Cuba/Venezuela solidarity movement. Join the discussion.

latest legal developments and emerging evidence on such HIV-related
topics as:

Owning Our Light: Women Coming Out of the Closet as Transformative
Leaders
With Marilyn Daniels
Sunday, June 14th, 1:00-6:00 pm
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto,
252 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON
$60. (before May 20th); $70. (after May 20th)
During this workshop we will identify and release some of the
internal blocks that prevent us from owning our power as women. We
will identify how we might better take care of our needs and fears so
that they can guide us rather than stand in the way. We will recommit
to what most deeply matters. And, through ritual, group discussion,
and creative processes, we will help each other move through our
metamorphosis as leaders who can stand up boldly for the change we
envision in the world.

Taking Heart in Tough Times - A public talk by Joanna Macy
Opening Ceremony with Six Nations healer and leader Diane Longboat.

Bloor Street West, Toronto
Admission: $25, $15 for students and seniors. Tickets available
online at
joannamacy.eventbrite.com
“Economic contraction, climate change, peak oil, social unrest...
There is
no doubt about it—these are challenging and uncertain times. In this
interactive talk eco-philosopher Joanna Macy points the way out of
despair,
helplessness, or denial, and into vision, creativity and empowered
action.
You will come away with a sense of the bigger picture, a context for
hope,
and inspiration for navigating the challenges ahead.
“The most remarkable feature of this historical moment is not that we
are on
the way to destroying our world - we’ve actually been on the way for
quite a
while. It is that we are starting to wake up, as from a millennia-long
sleep, to a whole new relationship to our world, ourselves, and each
other.”
Joanna Macy
Author, activist and eco-philosopher Joanna Macy is one of the great
evolutionary leaders of our time. A respected scholar of general systems
theory, deep ecology, and Buddhism, she is also a leading voice in
movements
for peace, justice, and environmental integrity. She has created a
ground-breaking theoretical framework for personal and social change, as
well as a powerful workshop methodology for its application. To
