Complete Streets Update Public Meeting - Nov 23
Streets designed for living? Where all users are not just considered but
required in the design and redesign of our streets? That’s what we’re
calling for with the Complete Streets Campaign!
Date: Monday, November 23
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Metro Hall (room TBA)
In the United States, complete streets policies ensure that street designs
consider all users – pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists –
so that our streets are livable and safe for everyone. Cities and states
throughout the United States have adopted these policies, and we think
Toronto should lead the way here in Canada.
Interested in learning more and joining the campaign? Come to our public
meeting on Monday, November 23. We’ll be giving a presentation on complete
streets policies and developing a strategy to reach out to other
organizations. We’re also working on a complete streets brochure for
Toronto’s mayoral candidates, so if you want to find out what the
candidates say about your place on the streets, this project is for you!

Street Health & Neighbourhood Link are going ahead with their plan to
remove Gaetan Heroux and the Paid ID Project from Street Health and the
downtown East End, moving him all the way out to Scarborough. Despite what
they've been saying, this WILL mean a huge loss of the service he and his
program provide. It WILL drastically prevent people from seeing him,
knowing how far away he will be from the very people he works with. His
hours in the community will be reduced from 37 hours to a mere 7 hours.
COME OUT TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT! LETS KEEP GAETAN WHERE HE BELONGS – IN THE
EAST END!

A grandfather worries about the kind of planet Earth his generation will
leave to the grandkids and the future generations. He embarks on a journey
to explore the destructive impact of climate change on the marine food
chains and the ocean ecosystem. He realizes that the ocean has become the
dump site of the world (i.e. CO2 etc.) and much more. Ocean is an
important component of climate system but is not much covered by the
media, this movie fills that void.

Alternatives to Animal Experimentation in Education and the Health Sciences

A free lecture by Olivier Berreville of InterNICHE, the International
Network for Humane Education.
Mr. Berreville will be discussing arguments against the use of live
animals for biomedical research and for purposes of education.
InterNICHE "promotes progressive humane education in the biological
sciences, veterinary and human medicine; and supports the replacement of
animal experiments by working with teachers to introduce alternatives, and
with students to support freedom of conscience".

In the weeks since the Mayor announced that he would not be running for
re-election, there has been ample speculation about potential Mayoral
candidates. Missing from the speculation on the "who," however, has been
the "what." We need a thorough and thoughtful discussion of the challenges
that face Toronto in the next term of Council and the policy agenda and
vision for our city. It is time to set the agenda for 2010.
To that end, City Councillor Joe Mihevc is am inviting residents and
leading thinkers to discuss their vision for Toronto. This will be a
two-part exercise; first, an online brainstorming session and open
discussion on the newly launched website
