Future Earth 2025
The Passionate Eye, CBC TV News Network
Sunday March 28, 8 p.m. ET/PT
or watch it online
Future Earth 2025 takes us on an extraordinary CGI journey into the
future offering a vision of what the world might be like if we
continue to deplete one of our primary resources - water. Los Angeles
consumed by raging firestorms, Rome under attack from billons of
locusts, Washington DC flooded, massive dust storms engulfing Las
Vegas, nations suffering drought as rivers dry up, forcing conflicts
over water. Just the stuff of apocalyptic Hollywood movies?
Its estimated the world's ever growing propulation will need 50% more
water in the next 20 years. Future Earth 2025 creates credible
disaster scenarios based on changing weather and rain patterns, and
uses the testimony of world leading scientists and engineers to
project the future, and explore how these disasters can be diverted by
adopting new technologies and making changes to the way we live.
Future Earth 2025 is produced by UK based Darlow Smithson.

Future Earth - Addicted to Power
The Passionate Eye, CBC TV News Network
Monday March 29, 10 p.m. ET/PT
or watch it online
Modern life would be impossible without enough energy, but it's an
addiction that could cost the Earth. We rely on fossil fuels - oil,
coal, and gas - which all emit the carbon that contributes to global
warming. The dilemma is how to keep the lights on without cooking the
planet. Future Earth: Addicted to Power illustrates the disastrous
consequences of continuing our addiction to power through photo-real
CGI, but it also includes gripping interviews with experts who explore
how adopting new technologies and making changes to the way we live
can avert these disasters.

War Made Easy
2008, 72 minutes.
Thursday, April 1 - 7 p.m.
OISE, 252 Bloor St. West, Room 2-212 (at the St. George Subway Station.)
Everyone welcome. $4 donation requested.
This study reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose a 50-year
pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged the
United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq.
Narrated by actor and activist Sean Penn, the film exhumes remarkable
archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to
George W. Bush, revealing in stunning detail how the American news
media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war messages of
successive presidential administrations.
Preceded by a brief introduction, and will be followed by a
commentary, and an open floor discussion period.

> When something seems wrong, we talk about it with others. If the
> concern is shared, the conversation spreads, with people discussing,
> adding to and refining the alternative view, until a new perspective
> of a better way comes into being. As that perspective spreads,
> lifestyles, technologies, laws and institutions change. This
> process led to the end of Apartheid in South Africa, the fall of the
> Berlin Wall, the installation of seat belts in cars and the
> prohibition of smoking indoors in public places, to name a few
> notable examples. It will also eventually shift the organizing
> principal of our societies from perpetual expansion to sustainability.
>
> Societies change. Ours can, must and will. How fast we adapt
> depends on how much we talk about the necessary changes.
