All the extra cops here from around ON gotta have something to do, like ticket cyclists for not having a bell on your bike, or lights. Dan got a $110 dollar ticket today for not having a bell. Reel Solutions 2010 Peoples Summit Documentary Film series
All screenings will take place at the Toronto Underground Cinema 186 Spadina Ave. and will feature speakers, Q&A and actions for the audience.
Monday June 21
- 5 pm - Eco-Debt 10 min A short film about how one percent of the entire populations of the earth is consuming eighty percent of the resources.
- 5:15 pm - Pray the Devil Back to Hell 72 min. Pray the Devil Back to Hell chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country.
- 7 pm - Poor No More 60 minutes Poor No More offers solutions to Canada's working poor. The film takes three Canadians to a world where people do not have to beg, where housing is affordable and university education is free. They ask themselves: if other countries can do this, why don't we?
Tuesday June 22
- 5 pm - H2Oil 81 min. H2Oil follows a voyage of discovery,
heartbreak and politicization in the stories of those attempting to defend water in Alberta against tar sands expansion.
- 7 pm - Gasland 90 min. When filmmaker Josh Fox discovers that Natural Gas drilling is coming to his area, he sets off on a 24 state journey to uncover the deep and shocking
consequences of the United States' natural gas drilling boom.
Wednesday June 23
- 5 pm - Plunder: The Crime Of Our Time 100 min. Plunder explores how the financial crisis was built on a foundation of criminal activity uncovering the connection between the collapse of the housing market and the economic catastrophe
that followed.
Thursday June 24th
- 5 pm - Six Miles Deep, 43 min. Documenting the dispute in Caledonia Ontario over encroaching development on Six Nations land, Six Miles Deep is an inspiring and compelling
portrait of a group of women whose actions have led a cultural reawakening in their traditionally matriarchal community.
- 6 pm - Ghosts 53 Min. Ghosts follows three Arab-Canadian men who were detained and tortured for months and years in Syria and Egypt. Upon their release they return to Canada and struggle to find some answers.
- 7:15 pm - Under Rich Earth 91 min. Under Rich Earth is a story about ordinary people with extraordinary courage. In a remote mountain valley in Ecuador, coffee and sugarcane farmers face the dismal prospect of being forced off their land to make way for a Canadian mining project.
- 9 pm - Myths for Profit 60 min. Myths for Profit is a dramatic, exposé which explores Canada's role in industries of war and peace.

Harper's Attacks on Reproductive Rights - at home and abroad

Women can never achieve equality or better lives for themselves and their families unless they have the right to control their reproduction. Yet the Harper government is consciously excluding the provision of abortion as part of the 'maternal and child health policy' they are pushing at the upcoming G20 meetings in Toronto. But if, as they claim, their purpose is to save lives and make women and children's lives better, this is not possible if women don't have access to a full range of reproductive choices, including abortion.
The Harper government is emboldening the anti-choice minority in this country. If they are allowed to pursue the Bush-era policy of cutting funding for abortion in developing countries, they may begin to more directly attack abortion rights in Canada. JOIN US FOR A PANEL DISCUSSION on the stakes in these G20 talks, and how we can organize to defend abortion rights at home and abroad.

Urban Buzz: A Tale of Three Cities (Multi-media art exhibit): A visual journey to learn about the different ways bees inhabit Toronto, New York City and the San Francisco Bay area. Toxic Tour: Call for Environmental Justice! Take the Toxic Tour of Toronto

On June 23rd in response to the Toronto Community Mobilization Network's call for a day of action on environmental justice, organizers in the city will be guiding a tour through Toronto to expose the institutions most responsible for the environmental and social impacts of Canada's extractive industries both at home and abroad. Canada is home to 75% of the world's mining and exploration companies, making it a global leader in this industry. Canada's place within the G8 nations is largely due to the exploitation of Indigenous peoples, their lands and rural poor for mining, tar sands and oil/gas exploitation.
We encourage folks coming to dress up and challenge those in power with costumes, floats and fancied up bicycles. We will be working on several floats in lead up but encourage all to dress up for our action. Ideas for costumes: Executives with blood on their hands (fake blood provided) , corporate zombies, people covered in Tar Sands bitumen (mud provided) and any other ideas you have.

In Kenya, giant flower factories use massive amounts of pesticides and chemicals to keep their flowers alive and then pollute the local water supply, harming the very same people they employ. An investigation reveals the horrific working conditions and sexual abuse that the workers must endure in order to keep their job. A BLOOMING BUSINESS explores the human and environmental repercussions of the floral industry. A rose may no longer smell as sweet.

- 1 pm, Queen’s Park, College and University, March – Get Off the Fence! Anti-Capitalist and Anti- Colonial March to the Summit. (The two marches will merge but finish in difference locations).
- 10 pm to 7 am, Location TBA, Radical Sreet Party - Saturday Night Fever. Party for your Right to Fight! 2010 fever is upon us! Saturday, June 26 is a night to reclaim our streets and show the world that Toronto is alive, empowered, and ready for a world-class party. Join us from midnight ‘till dawn for a roaming dance party with band performances, guerrilla DJ’s and live MCs. G20 Summit: Prayer Vigil for Peace and Justice
Sun. June 27, 2 p.m.
St James Park (King and Church)
Join the Student Christian Movement and friends for a nonviolent, prayerful action, to remember the victims of social and economic oppression in the G20 countries, and of IMF/World Bank economic policies worldwide, and to express our hope that the world leaders gathered in Toronto will act in the interests of all people, rather than just the economic elite.
We will gather on Sunday, June 27, at 2 pm, on the grounds of St James Anglican Cathedral (King and Church), and walk to the barricade, where we will remain in prayer and vigil for as long as possible. Some of the participants may choose to obstruct the entry point or the road, and may be arrested, but those who don't choose to risk arrest can also be full participants in the vigil.
We encourage everyone interested in participating to attend, if possible, a planning/training session on Thursday June 24, at 6 pm, at St Simon the Apostle, 525 Bloor St E. It is especially important that anyone who may risk arrest should come to this session.

How does the local commons serve the common good? Why, that’s the riddle at the heart of the second annual Totstock, brought to you by THE TOT SQUAD (AKA The Little Paper, Rooster Studio & Small Print) and short films provided by Planet in Focus.
The main stage will showcase many of Toronto’s most popular kids-friendly indie bands, like Don Kerr & Friends, Bellwoods Trinity, Chris Patterson and The Monkey Bunch. The Small Print tent will host such leading children’s authors as Lana Button, Laurel Crouza, Matt James, Sharon Jennings and Patricia Storms. And Lynda Hill, Artistic Director of Theatre Direct, will read Peter Rabbit. (And rumour has it that Peter, the lovable rascal, may join in the festivities!)
