Labour Day Parade

The annual Labour Day Parade kicks off at 9:30 am from Queen and University. For over a century working people and their unions celebrate their struggles and their contributions to building Toronto and the region. The theme of this year's parade is Protect Our Public Services.

The Ontario Health Coalition is delighted to invite you to the book launch of Power in Coalition ... featuring a chapter on the OHC!

Power in Coalition is by Amanda Tattersall, an Australian researcher, union and community organizer and the founder of the Sydney Alliance, a diverse coalition of unions, community organizations and religious organizations. Amanda spent three years in Canada, Australia and the United States researching some of the most successful coalitions from around the world. The book includes a chapter on the Ontario Health Coalition's campaigns to save Medicare and against P3s.

Speakers include: Amanda Tattersall, Michael Hurley of CUPE/OCHU and Natalie Mehra director of the OHC.

Volunteer Orientation - (for Toronto's 10th Annual Car Free Day)

Wednesday September 8th @ 6:30 - 8pm

Briefing session to coordinate outreach for the event to the surrounding area. Volunteers can expect to spend 2 hours walking through the neighbourhood and answering questions about the event from local residents. 
NO CARS on Queen's Park Crescent East and West from Wellesley St. to University. Space and freedom to play in the open street.
Art Battle and Charity Auction!
Free Yoga classes on University Avenue!
Giant board games in the park!
Mini golf, badminton and other activities!
Cycling safety awareness, bike tune ups and circuit training!
We are able to provide documentation for community service hours for high school students. Volunteers can earn up to 20 hours for Car Free Day.
 
In the Greater Toronto Area there are several Sierra Club-sponsored Car Free Days. They all aim to be fun, free events encouraging people to get out of their cars and run, walk, cycle or take public transit. Join us at Beit Zatoun on this special day where Eid coincides with a crucial event which has sparked recent distrust between two cultures and two religions and for the opening of this major photo exhibition and for a guided tour by Nada Raphael, the artist who brings her native country in 60 stunning photographs to Canada which welcomed her as one of its own. It offers a more dynamic and fast-moving testimony of ordinary people, Christians and Muslims, living together in peace in what has been at various times a war-torn country.

Through interviews, viewers glimpse landscapes, personal and family stories that help to create a country's history and identity. The documentary presents an opportunity to have a closer relationship with the people interviewed and their reality which often conflicts with the images transmitted in the West of irreconcilable and deadly differences.
