Municipal coalition joins fight against nuclear power - Quebec urged to
mothball Gentilly-2 plant

255 municipalities and regional municipal governments across the province
have formally backed a demand that Quebec pull the plug on nuclear energy
once and for all. 
Public-opinion polls show almost two-thirds of Quebecers are opposed to a
plan by Hydro-Quebec to rebuild Gentilly-2.

Uncertainty principle haunts nuclear industry

These are uncertain times for Canada’s nuclear industry
 At the root of the
uncertain mood is the future of AECL, which the federal government has put
up for sale. No one yet knows who, if anyone will buy it; or if they’ll buy
it in whole or in part. Some may simply want to run AECL as service and
maintenance shop for existing Candu reactors, which means the company will
gradually wind down in 15 or 20 years.

Radioactive Stainless Steel Found in Germany

The German government has become increasingly concerned over the last six
months by the incidence of stainless steel products exhibiting radioactive
contamination. In total, some 150 tons of material have been identified so
far, spread across a wide range of material forms, from stainless steel wire
wool, to bars, valves, castings and flat products.

A plan to ship 16 steam generators on the Detroit River and Great Lakes has
sparked an international outcry.
