Toronto Greenspiration Events

Bike-friendly friends,

I'm selling beautiful bicycle wall calendars again this year. They're just 10 bucks. They're produced by Montreal-based Cyclo Nord-Sud, an NGO that collects old bikes and sends them to lesser developed countries. So purchasing one raises funds for them as well as for advocacy for bike lanes on Bloor (Take the Tooker and Bells on Bloor).

Buy some for your bicycle friends! Original, eco and useful.

I'll drop them off if you're anywhere within bicycle distance of downtown, or add $3 if you need to me to mail them.
Send me your address and I'll get them to you.

Blessings of the season...

Surviving Progress

Playing now at the Cumberland Theatre (Bloor and Avenue Road)

Surviving Progress presents the story of human advancement as awe-inspiring and double-edged. It reveals the grave risk of running the 21st century's software - our knowhow - on the ancient hardware of our primate brain which hasn't been upgraded in 50,000 years. With rich imagery and an immersive soundtrack, filmmakers Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks launch us on a journey to contemplate our evolution from care-dwellers to space explorers.

Webinar: Canaries in the Coal Mine: Women and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Online
Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 1-2 p.m. EST

A free event presented by the Canadian Women's Health Network, in collaboration with National Network on Environments and Women's Health and CIHR Team in Gender, Environment and Health.

An estimated 3 to 5 per cent of Canadians have developed sensitivities to chemicals in our day-to-day environment. Women constitute 60 to 80 per cent of people suffering from these multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS). What are the potential gendered components of this contested health issue, and how do they echo broader conversations related to women's health and environmental health policy in Canada?

Geneviève Nadeau conducted a critical review of MCS-related literature in the social sciences in the context of a scholarship of the CIHR Team in Gender, Environment and Health. She offers insight on some multifaceted dimensions of MCS related to the health of Canadian women.

How do you find a method of birth control that’s just right for you and your needs as a bi woman?

Help Stop the TTC Service Cuts and Fare Hike

On Wednesday December 14th the TTC will vote to approve its 2012 budget. If this budget is not changed, we will be forced to pay more money for worse transit service next year.

The members of the Toronto Transit Commission need to hear from you. Sign up and speak out for more and better public transit in Toronto. Please register to make a public deputation at the TTC's meeting Dec. 14. Just call 416-393-3698 or email gso at ttc.ca and ask to speak about the TTC's 2012 budget. It will take a lot of us to get TTC Commissioners to do their job. We need them to:
	• Say no to the 10% reduction in the TTC's operating budget.
	• Vote against the proposed 10 cent fare hike.
	• Work with us to get the Province to return to fair funding of the TTC's operating costs.
