Anthony Haines scorched earth policy is unprecedented in any public utility. CUPE Local One has called for this mass rally.
How can Hydro CEO Haynes cut 450 workers when, by his own calculation, another 500 plan to retire over the next 4 years? Who will deal with heat wave blackouts and winter storm damage, or the backlog of maintenance and rebuild the aging electrical distribution system? Come out to support Hydro workers and call your Councillor to demand that Toronto City Council reign in this out-of-control CEO.

With Dr. Munir Sheikh, former Chief Statistician of Canada and current Distinguished Fellow at the School of Policy Studies at Queens University, and Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the School of Public Policy and Administration, Carleton University
Sheikh was appointed as the head of Statistics Canada by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He officially became the Chief Statistician of Canada on June 16, 2008, replacing Ivan Fellegi. On July 21, 2010, Sheikh resigned from that post, following a controversy resulting from the Conservative government's decision to no longer require mandatory completion of the Canada 2011 Census long form. The decision has been heavily criticised; opponents have argued that the decision was politically motivated and that it will compromise the value of census data.

Blue-Green Province: The Environment and the Political Economy of Ontario

Mark Winfield explores the evolution of environmental policy in Ontario in the post-World War II period, with a focus on the modern period between 1971 and 2011. It places the provinces approach to environmental matters in the wider context of the changes in Ontario’s environment, economy and society over this period. Particular attention is given to the influence of levels of public concern for the environment on public policy, the impact of changes in dominant ideas about the role of the province state and the relationship between economic development and environmental sustainability and the role of structural changes in the provincial economy. The presentation will include a discussion of the implications of the October 2011 election for the future of environmental and energy policy in Ontario.

A major part of social change work is lots of meetings. Meetings can be inspiring, hellish, or somewhere in between. The quality of a meeting depends a lot on good facilitation. Facilitators aren’t supposed to run the show, and they do more than keep track of who wants to speak. In this workshop you’ll learn and practice some steps, tools, techniques and approaches that can help you effectively facilitate meetings – and that includes those difficult meetings.
Trainer: Jessica Bell is a facilitator, a lecturer in the non-profit and voluntary sector management program at Ryerson University, and a trainer with the Ruckus Society.

Cinenova: Closing Performance - Throwback + Rebels Rule

Cinenova is a non-profit womens’ film/video distributor based in London, UK. We are presenting a newly commissioned performance by Toronto artist Sharlene Bamboat responding to the Cinenova collection and the themes and ideas surrounding it. Drawing from her daily life, Bamboat’s work in film, video and performance embodies themes of mobility and fragmented identity, migration and homeland, and how the queer body relates to architectural spaces of in-between-ness. Bamboat's performance, Throwback, will be in collaboration with Montreal-based artist Ali El Darsa, and explores the transformative nature of archiving and the intertwining histories of performance and video documentation. At 9 PM see Rebels Rule, a screening featuring Will Munro’s films and his appearances in films.
An initiative of the Feminist Art Gallery, The Power Plant in conjunction with the exhibition Coming After, and the Art Gallery of York University in conjunction with the exhibition Will Munro: History, Glamour, Magic.
