Rally to Oppose Bill 37! Save OSPCA's investigative powers!

Join us in a rally to oppose the new Bill 37 to be introduced on Monday by
MPP Jack
(COWARD) McLaren (photo attached). This bill invites corruption, creates
situations
of conflict of interest, and, if passed, would fundamentally weaken the
investigative and enforcement powers of the OSPCA. Incredibly, abused
animals would
be at the mercy of the abuser and would be 'cared' for by veterinarian of
abuser's
choice (a conflict of interest), would not be allowed to be put up for
adoption, but
would be sent to auction most likely for slaughter, and the proceeds would
go to the
abuser -- sounds like the era of human slavery from centuries ago. Stop this
cowardly bill and its cowardly proponent: MPP Jack McLaren (PC party).
Ontario and
its animals deserve better.

problems:
lamprey eels in Lake Superior, heavy metals in Lake Michigan, zebra mussels
in Lake
Huron, petrochemical waste in Lake Erie, and toxic waste dumps near Lake
Ontario all
degrade human and animal health. What about tritium leakage from nuclear
facilities
into our Great Lakes? What are the effects of climate change? The film
argues that
governments and industry turn a blind eye to needed clean up and regulation,

workshop will cover the basic steps to organizing a rally, show examples of
creative
innovation in rally design, and explore setting tone and encouraging
responsible
participation without unduly imposing on personal autonomy. It will also
offer tips
on chanting on a bullhorn, planning routes, and dealing with the police,
escalation
and de-escalation, promotion, and visuals.

Water On The Table is a character-driven, social-issue documentary by Liz
Marshall
that explores Canada's relationship to its freshwater, arguably its most
precious
natural resource. The film asks the question: Is water a commercial good
like
running shoes or Coca-Cola? Or, is water a human right like air?
 
The main subject of the documentary is environmental and water-rights
activist Maude
Barlow. The film captures life on the road with Barlow in Canada and the
United
States over the course of a year. She leads an unrelenting schedule of
speaking
engagements and frontline community actions. From 2008 - 2009 Barlow served
as the
U.N. Senior Advisor on Water to Father Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, President
of the
63rd Session of the United Nations.
