It has never been transported in liquid form over Canadian or American roads and bridges. The actual route will be top-secret because the liquid waste contains "weapons-grade" uranium -- the same material that was used as a nuclear explosive in the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. For the same reason, the shipments will be accompanied by heavily armed guards with authority to shoot to kill if need be.

Federal officials have said six underground tanks at the site are leaking into the soil, threatening the groundwater, and technical problems have delayed construction of a plant to treat the waste for long-term safe disposal.

Yet even with billions at stake, the Liberal government continues to refuse an independent review that would analyze the risks and costs of nuclear and to review safer, cheaper and cleaner alternatives. The high price tag of nuclear also creates a disincentive for conservation and efficiency -- we need to sell the energy once it is produced, even if saving a kilowatt is the cheapest and greenest choice. Same could be said for high-cost nuclear.

Thanks to all of you that sent in letters opposing Toronto Hydro’s project which will increase their profits by $9.7 million per year at the expense of their customers. Win some, lose some.

But it didn’t need all the methane the cows produced, so the farm is now turning the extra manure into fuel for its delivery trucks.
