Tell our elected officials to properly fund the TTC today
The TTC 2014 budget was just approved by the TTC Commission. Fare hikes and status-quo 'overcrowded' service are in store for TTC users next year, unless we do something about it. This TTC budget is to be sent to City Council for approval. Now is the time to tell our city and provincial elected officials to properly fund the TTC so service can be expanded and fares reduced, especially for those in financial need. Send your message today: http://bit.ly/HAyCnh
Become a TTCriders member. Your support helps us mobilize riders and generate the political will necessary to convince our elected officials to get us a fair deal for riders. http://www.ttcriders.ca/become-a-ttcriders-member/

GMO OMG
Nov. 22 – 28 (various times)
Bloor Hot Docs Cinema (Bloor and Bathurst)
GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) is a term that immediately makes one think of science fiction, but GMOs are a harsh and shocking reality that impacts all of us daily. Jeremy Seifert’s alarming documentary GMO OMG reveals that the majority of food we grow and ingest has been genetically modified, often without proper testing or regulation. Yes, we are in fact the guinea pigs of large corporate agriculture and chemical companies such as Monsanto and DuPont who have taken control of North American agriculture business in a grand experiment to make a buck. But as Seifert argues, it’s not just the food we’re eating that is being modified; it’s also the seeds of future crops that are being “pumped up” for quick and pest-free harvests, but with zero re-growth bred into the seeds’ DNA making farmers reliant on continually buying GMO seeds year after year. It’s a frightening picture that is rarely discussed in the news or current political debates, but as Seifert points out, it’s not too late to take back control of what we consume and how we consume it.

Conservatives, Corruption & Capitalism - with John Bell
Tuesday, November 26, 7 pm
O.I.S.E., 252 Bloor Street West, room 2286
The Canadian ruling class has been wracked by scandals in recent months. From the Senate expense scandals of Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin, and the ensuing infighting that threatens Stephen Harper's iron-clad grip on the Conservative Party, to Rob Ford's very public and ongoing meltdown. But capitalism is the real scandal. Join us for a discussion of the connections between our corrupt elected leaders and their corrupt corporate buddies, and how they are inherent to the capitalist system, as well as our resistance to their vicious austerity agenda, and what it would take to rid ourselves of these ruling class clowns once and for all.

Development in Port Lands and South of Eastern
Thurs. November 28, Open House 6-7, Presentation / discussion 7-9
Riverdale Collegiate on Gerrard at Jones
The City is moving forward on making plans to accelerate development of the Port Lands. And they are looking at what will be developed south of Eastern Ave (Smart Centres site and its neighbours). What is at stake? What we build will affect people’s health. We look forward to hearing about how transit, walking and cycling will be prioritized to support clean air and physical activity. And we will be looking for a range of development in the Port lands including affordable housing and public services. Safe access to Lake Ontario parks has also been discussed (along Leslie, Cherry and Carlaw with a bridge over the ship channel). And how will these new neighbourhoods be connected back into South Riverdale and Cork Town? In the South of Eastern area we will look for the preservation of good jobs in the “employment lands”.
If you couldn’t make the last public presentation it is available here – look for the video link bottom right. http://www.portlandsconsultation.ca/ It is about an hour and lays out floor proofing, phasing and where development will occur first.

Exhibition dates: November 28th – December 18th
Trinity Square Video presents ONE-D which is work that challenges the conventions of spectatorship, the viewing space and the audience. Working at the intersection of performance and video, ONE-D explores a participatory and performative cinema beyond the projected image. These five artists use the body to expand the limits of video, body and gesture. They blur the boundary between image and presence, exploring acts of doubling that trouble the polemics of memory, loss, absence and otherness.

This is an opportunity to explore permaculture at York University. Our canvas is the Regenesis at York World Garden project on Ross Podium. Garden installations will engage various groups across campus and will provide a central space for culture around naturally grown food.

The fight against fascism in Greece: an eyewitness report
Sunday, December 1, 5:30pm
Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil Street
Join us for a dinner and discussion, featuring a Skyped presentation from a member of the Greek Socialist Workers Party who is facing trial for her role in anti-fascist organizing.
The fight against the racist Golden Dawn has forced the Greek government to arrest leading members of the organization. However, the Greek state has used this as an opportunity to crack down on what they call "the extremes of both right and left" and try and stifle popular mobilizations against racism and austerity. Anti-fascist and anti-racist activists in Greece (including Petros Constantinou, seen speaking above) have been charged under Greece's "anti-terror" laws - for speaking out against the recent police killings of two Albanian escaped prisoners.
