There is actually a way to guarantee Harper’s defeat
We found 16 special ridings that will change the outcome of the election. In these ridings: the conservative candidate is ahead, one of the progressive candidates is a close second, while the other is a distant third but still has enough support to impact the result.

ISIS Slave Market Puts Women and Girls on Same List as Cattle
This is a painful ready by Eve Ensler (author of the Vagina Monologues and more), but she ends with love. "I am thinking of Shock and Awe and how it helped unleash Rape and Behead. I am thinking of religious fundamentalism and how many women have been raped in God's name and how many massacred and murdered. This led me to love, thinking about love, how the failure of this century is a failure of love. Who will be the brave, furious, visionary authors of our manual of revolutionary love?"

Bike Lanes on Bloor ever-elusive for Toronto planners and cyclists
To cycling advocates, it’s a step toward a key piece of infrastructure that’s been the subject of debate and analysis for decades. “It’s a big step forward, and it’s about time,” Angela Bischoff said about the pilot project. A member of Bells on Bloor’s organizing team, Bischoff was married to the late activist Tooker Gomberg, memorialized in “Take the Tooker” group rides and advocacy calling for bike lanes on Bloor-Danforth. “Since his passing there have been so many projects that he spawned that have since come to fruition,” Bischoff said. “I wish he was around to see the legacy of his life.”

Performance: Dance is a weapon in the revolutionary class struggle - A Stop Harper, No to Bill C-51
Tues, October 13, 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm (doors at 7)
Beit Zatoun, 612 Markham
“Dance is a weapon in the revolutionary class struggle” is a slogan raised by the Workers Dance League, a dance troupe in the 1930’s that created dances with a Marxist message during the great working class struggles in the US during the Great Depression years. The first piece on the program is a revolutionary “Ted” talk highlighting this history and making connections to the similar austerity climate today. The second piece called “The Interview” is based on one of the dancer’s experience being tapped for a CSIS interview while trying to secure a job. The piece makes direct reference C-51 and the possibility that as Russell Brand puts it in the sound track of the piece, “we are all terrorists now.” By donation. Dancers: Pam Johnson and Corrie Sakaluk.

Annette Street library, 145 Annette Street
Fracking is an extreme energy method to extract underground natural gas. It is rapidly expanding in almost every province across Canada. Communities are uniting to oppose fracking because of its high water use, its high carbon emissions, its impacts on human health, the disruption it causes to wildlife, and the danger it poses to groundwater and local drinking water. Tara Seucharan, Council of Canadians, Toronto Chapter, will speak about this important environmental issue.
