The final capital cost and price of electricity from the re-built reactors of the project is still to be determined. In other words, this deal continues the long tradition of leaving ratepayers on the hook for capital cost overruns at a time when renewables prices are falling dramatically.

Unfortunately for consumers, the price we pay will be based on the final cost estimate, not the preliminary one,” said Gibbons. “So once again a politician is committing to nuclear without knowing the final cost,” he said.

Greenpeace believes the evidence will show the distribution zone for the pills should be expanded from 10 to 50 kilometres, which would include all of Toronto.
