Next steps to fight the Dakota Access Pipeline
A petition launched by The Nation, the Indigenous Environmental Network, 350.org, and many other groups demands that the 17 banks funding the Dakota Access Pipeline divest. This week the Seattle city council voted unanimously to divest from Wells Fargo to protest its financing of the pipeline and Davis, California followed shortly after. On Wednesday, there were demonstrations in front of the White House and across the country to demand a stop to the pipeline. Even as the Army Corps of Engineers granted the final permit for the pipeline and construction restarts, the resistance continues. Native organizers are calling for allies to head to Washington, DC on March 10th for the Native Nations March.

This is to save city services currently on the chopping block, and to promote funding for TransformTO. City Council will debate and final vote on the city’s 2017 budget. Join us to demand a fair budget that makes life better for people in our city. Toronto is the most unequal city in Canada. One in four children lives in poverty. Hundreds of thousands are stuck on waitlists for affordable housing, child care and recreation programs. And over the last six years, people who can least afford it have paid the price of TTC and program fees hikes AND service cuts. We say Toronto can do better! City residents need a budget that makes transit, housing, child care, recreation and critical city services affordable AND accessible. After the rally we will go into the City Council meeting and deliver our "Toronto Can Do Better" postcards to the councillors to send a message that we need a fair budget.
