Equal Pay Day - It's Time to Close the Gender Pay Gap
Tues. April 11, noon. Join us at the corner of College and University for
speeches and a rally. Wear red, because discriminatory pay gaps keep women
"in the red".
Attend Queen's Park Gallery at 2:30 pm to hear the MPPs speak about Equal
Pay Day.
Although pay equity is the law in Ontario, women on average still earn
roughly 30% less than men. Racialized and Indigenous women earn 64% and 46%
less than men respectively. At a 30% pay gap, a woman will have to work 3.5
months into the new year to earn what men do by December 31 of the previous
year. Put another way, it will take Ontarian women 15.5 months to earn what
Ontarian men do in 12 - and women who are racialized, disabled, Indigenous,
migrant and immigrant, or sexual minorities or gender variant will have to
work into May and June.

Black Code
Fri. April 14 - April 19
Bloor Hot Docs, 506 Bloor W.
The internet has transformed how political activists can resist, mobilize
and create change in our increasingly polarized and paranoid world. Black
Code takes you around the globe-to Brazil, Pakistan, Sweden, Syria, Tibet
and an innovative research centre at the University of Toronto-where people
are developing new ways to fight oppression with technology. But with
increased surveillance capabilities, governments are in turn harnessing this
power to monitor citizens and keep them in line. In this thrilling TIFF 2016
favourite, Toronto-based filmmaker Nicholas de Pencier (Four Wings and a
Prayer, Watermark) takes an unflinching look at this ongoing high stakes
battle, revealing the internet's complex impact on freedom, privacy and
activism.
