2013 and has since won ten awards at international film festivals. Rob

We Believe Survivors of Canadian Mining & Extractive Industries - Public
Forum

After years of denying cases of sexual assault, Canadian mining company
Barrick Gold compensated 119 women and girls who were victims of sexual
violence by mine security to the tune of ~$10,000 each for these abuses, but
had them sign an agreement that they could never sue the company. Eleven of
the women refused this remedy package and threatened to sue the company,
resulting in a higher out of court settlement. Since that time, the 119
women who originally accepted the money from Barrick have organized into
women's groups and started to demand more dignified treatment from the
company. Many others have never received any compensation at all, as
allegations of sexual violence continue.  From gaslighting tactics, to the
cultural and legal barriers that prevent women from sharing their stories,
we will look at the systemic forces that work to silence victims of abuse.
We will also hear from courageous women who have self-organized with other
survivors to tell their stories and demand accountability. Hosted by MISN:

today), the air is breathable, but unhealthy (like Beijing today), song
birds are extinct (pigeons thrive) and rates of infertility and impotence
among humans are high. Freak weather is common, destructive and often
deadly. Slavery has been revived to cope with the huge numbers of displaced
people. The world’s economy continues to grow, to the detriment of the
biosphere. That is, until a few brave women decide to use one of their

Naming and Confronting Subtle Violence in Everyday Church Work - With Lee

Subtle violence (known as micro-aggressions) are brief, everyday exchanges
that send denigrating messages to certain individuals because of their group
membership. These exchanges can occur in verbal, behavioural, and
environmental form and communicate subtle messages of hostility,
degradation, or insult based upon the target’s race, gender, sexual
orientation, gender identity, class, ability, ethnicity, national heritage,
or religion. Perpetrators often engage in micro-aggressive communication
unintentionally and without conscious awareness. We’ll focus our examples on
three targeted groups – gender, race and LGBTQ. We will do so through the
use of story-telling, case studies, role play and play-based learning. The
goal is peace and thriving places of ministry through recognition of your
own use of subtle violence and the capacity to name that of others.

join us for a film screening of the 2012 documentary ‘The Atomic States of
America’. On April 26, 1986, a nuclear reactor in Pripyat, Ukraine suffered
a catastrophic power increase, leading to explosions in its core. This
dispersed large quantities of radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere and
caused an open-air fire. Thousand got cancer, mutations, Chernobyl heart,
and have died. After spending billions, it is still a disaster zone. To
honor the victims (and continue informing ourselves & others about nuclear
risks), we will screen the film 'Atomic States of America' and have a
discussion of current energy policy in Ontario. This excellent documentary
covers all aspects of the nuclear scene: economic, political, safety,
