Electoral Reform and how to take Action

Think it's time for Canada to finally have a voting system that's more fair and representative? One that doesn't allow a party to win 100% of the power with less than 40% of the vote? Justin Trudeau wants to break his promise on Election Reform. But we still have a chance to make him do the right thing, and keep that promise. On May 31st the report the Electoral Reform Committee created will be put to a vote. According to the rules of the house, if that vote passes, the report itself becomes an order which the government must carry out. If enough MPs, especially Liberal ones, start signing on, Justin Trudeau will either have to put electoral reform back on the table or face a revolt within his own party. With speakers:

The Pickering Nuclear Station is one of the world’s oldest and largest, and it’s surrounded by 2 million people. OPG is now applying for yet another licence extension, this time till 2028. Meanwhile, it continues to release 100 kgs of tritiated water vapour daily – radioactive tritium is a carcinogen, mutagen and teratogen. And it continues to suck up $1 billion tax dollars every year to subsidize its operating losses. Are there other ways to meet our electricity needs that are lower cost and safer? With speakers:
- Jack Gibbons, Chair of the Ontario Clean Air Alliance, will address the costs and alternatives to extending Pickering’s licence.
