Doug Ford: Listen to the people, not the polluters!

A lawsuit from Greenpeace and Ecojustice forced the Ford government to open public consultations on the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act. Greenpeace put together an action page which will automatically send your comments to the Environmental Registry of Ontario and your Member of Provincial Parliament.

2 Billion And Counting: Reforesting Ontario One Tree At A Time

With Author John Bacher

Mon. Sept. 24, 7:30 p.m.

Bonar-Parkdale Presbyterian Church, 250 Dunn Ave (just south of Queen Street)

Conservationist John Bacher’s book, Two Billion Years And Counting, details the legacy of Edmund Zavitz (1875–1968) who, in the early 1900s, rescued Ontario from the ravages of powerful floods, erosion, and deadly fires. Wastelands were taking over once-flourishing farmlands due to extensive deforestation. One man made a difference.

FQ Awareness: Millions Permanently Disabled Not Knowing Why

Rally

Tues. and Wed. Sept. 25 and 26, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Queens Park lawn (College and University)

We gather here each fall to raise awareness about the surprisingly common adverse reactions to fluoroquinolone antibiotics, or FQs, and about the tremendous amount of harm that all pharmaceutical drugs are causing in general. Adverse reactions are far more common and often far more severe than most doctors believe, especially with FQs, which routinely cause HORRIFIC DEBILITATING DAMAGE from head to toe. Often, though, it sets in long after discontinuation of the drug, so the majority of victims have no idea what went so wrong.

How War Threatens the Environment

Thur. Sept. 27, 8 - 9 p.m. ET

Webinar

Did you know that the U.S. Department of "Defense" emits more carbon into the atmosphere than 160 other nations combined? One of the most destructive of human behaviors, war is a leading contributor to the growing global environmental crisis. In all its stages, from the production of weapons through combat, military operations pollute land, air, and water, destroy ecosystems, and drain limited natural resources.

Cinema Politica’s The Next 150: Documentary Futurism

Sat. Sept. 29, 8 pm, Doors 7:30

Innis Town Hall 2 sussex Ave, U of T

How do we document that which has yet to occur? Cinema Politica’s The Next 150: Documentary Futurism project seeks to usher in a new kind of filmmaking that brings actuality into conversation with speculation, realism with fantasy. Taking inspiration from Afro-futurism, Indigenous futurism, speculative fiction and non-fiction, Cinema Politica has commissioned 15 short films to inaugurate this new genre. Works created under the rubric of documentary futurism deploy filmmaking approaches and contexts associated with documentary in order to imagine, speculate and represent a “Canada” of the future.
