Panic in the (Oilpatch) Suites
The price at which U.S. refiners are willing to purchase Alberta bitumen has plunged since early September. Currently, those refiners are paying almost US$75 per barrel for oil from Texas, the Gulf Coast, or North Dakota, or for imported high-quality crude. But they will now pay less than US$30 for a barrel of Alberta bitumen. At that price, no new tar sands/oil sands projects can be financed. Even existing ones will throttle back production. This does not bode well for the Trans Mountain pipeline Canadians just bought.

303 Candles - March and Vigil Demanding Action on Opioid Crisis
Monday, October 15, 6 pm
Regent Park CHC, 465 Dundas Street East
Three hundred and three people died from opioid overdose in Toronto in 2017, which is a 63% increase compared to 2016 and a 121% increase compared to 2015. As our community struggles to respond to this crisis and cope with the tragic and preventable loss of loved ones the provincial government has stalled response efforts by initiating an unnecessary review of Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) services. Overdose Prevention sites are evidence-based services. They offer a stigma-free and caring environment where people can access healthcare, referrals, supplies and safety. Overdose Prevention Sites save lives. Please join us as we come together in grief and rage and demand action from the ON gov't.

Rally for Climate Action Now!
Wed. Oct. 17, noon - 1 p.m.
Queens' Park – south park
This week the government is hosting a very brief, very limited consultation on Bill 4: the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act. Many voices are not being heard! Most particularly the voice of young people who will face the results of our inaction on climate through extreme weather, food crises, and worse. We are handing the costs of inaction on to the youngest citizens and that is unfair. We will hold signs up showing the age our participants will be in 2040 when the worst impacts really start to hit, according to the recent IPCC report. Join us for the rally at noon and/or listen to the presentation in committee 9 – 10:15 a.m. and/or listen to question period in the Legislature – 10:30 a.m.

Planet in Focus - 19th Annual Environmental Film Festival
Oct. 25 - 28

Point of No Return
Saturday Oct. 27, 1 pm
Innis Town Hall, 2. Sussex Ave, U of T
In 2015, two Swiss pilots took on the groundbreaking feat of flying the world's first solar powered plane around the world. Point of No Return follows their amazing flight in The Solar Impulse aircraft. A delicate machine, vulnerable to the slightest of changes in weather, the “Solar Impulse” takes them on a risky and unpredictable flight. This film beautifully demonstrates what renewable energy has to offer for the future of air travel but also makes us wonder how much more we can achieve on land. It is a flight of the imagination made real. Co-presented by: Ontario Clean Air Alliance
