In fact, his proposed cuts to provincial revenues -- that is the funding for our health care and all our public services, amounts to $22 billion. That would be the biggest cut in the history of our province and would, without question, require massive restructuring, cuts and privatization in health care. We cannot let the government create a budget crisis & then cut and privatize our hospitals, long-term care, home care, our mental health & other vital health care.

Preparing for Arrest in the Context of Political Work

This in-case-of-arrest workshop will help folks learn to resist the fear of arrest by increasing awareness and knowledge of what it is like to be arrested and face charges in the context of political work. For those who haven’t attended a standard legal workshop we’ll briefly cover our [theoretical] legal rights and common charges, but the focus will centre on the experience of being arrested, navigating jail and the court system, preparing for sentencing and going to jail. We’ll also look at how we can individually and collectively prepare for arrest, what the support process can look like, and why it’s so important. The hope is that by sharing information and demystifying the process individuals will be more prepared and empowered to take action themselves - even when it may involve risk. The workshop facilitator is a longtime local political organizer with experience going through the process of action to arrest to jail and in supporting others through their legal cases.
