Climate Community Declares the Win as Polling Shows Climate Concern Driving Vote
The Canadian climate community is taking a victory lap and getting ready for the hard work ahead, after this week’s federal election largely delivered on the hope that the climate crisis would emerge as a key issue setting the composition of the country’s new government.

Call on the Liberals, NDP and Greens to form a cooperative government
We need a cooperative, stable government. We need parties committed to collaboration on the priorities important to Canadians - fighting climate change, improving affordability, a strong economy, and so many others. We need a National Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform - so we can finally move beyond the divisive politics of first-past-the-post.

A Historic Climate Victory
Canada's recent election provides much-needed hope that truth can prevail over disinformation. “We got a pretty resounding signal that Canadian voters are on board with climate action. 63% of people voted for parties with very strong climate plans.” At the same time, only 2% voted for the only Canadian party that denies climate change, the right-wing People’s Party of Canada. And climate change “dominated the election,” adding that the issue “occupied a more prominent space in the election discourse than any previous campaign in Canadian history.”

Know Your Drugs - preventing another opoid crisis
Pharmaceutical companies are probably the most active political lobbyists in the world. A good way to pressure governments to improve prescription drug safety is to make sure they receive adverse drug reaction reports from consumers, parents, guardians, and caregivers.

After the Ballot Box: Organizing in the Post-Election Moment
Wed. Oct. 30, 6 p.m.
Webinar
Thousands of people worked their hearts out for insurgent left candidates in the Canadian election. Many organizers from community and climate justice struggles like Our Time threw down behind candidates who campaigned on the need for ambitious action on climate, racism, inequality, and a Green New Deal. Now we have a minority government -- an election result that is mixed and its meaning contested, and a need to keep pushing on the levers of change. Join The Leap, Democractic Socialists of America (DSA), Momentum UK, and newly elected Member of Parliament for Hamilton Centre, Matthew Green for a webinar on organizing at the intersection of social movements and the electoral sphere.

City of Toronto TransformTO Climate Action Strategy
Wed. Oct. 30, 6:30 - 8:45 p.m.
Metro Hall, 55 John St, 3rd floor, Room 308/309
In 2017, Toronto City Council unanimously voted to pass TransformTO, the City’s climate action strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent of 1990 levels by 2050. To reach this target, Toronto needs to make transformative changes to the ways we travel, build, use energy, and manage waste— and the City needs your input on the next set of short-term climate actions from 2021-2023 that will support those transformations. You are invited to a public meeting to provide input to help inform the TransformTO Implementation Plan to 2023.

Environment Seminar: The Food-City Nexus in An Era Of Climate Change
Wed. Oct. 30, 12:10 - 2:00 p.m.
Room UC 140, University College Building, 15 King’s College Circle, U of T
Food is at the centre of the planetary crisis. The current industrial food system produces about one third of all GHGs, and is a major contributor to the breakdown of our planetary life support systems. In an increasingly urbanized world, cities are where the climate crisis is coming home to roost. The urgency of the climate crisis is creating a new food-city nexus and a need for “people-centred food policy.” In this seminar, I will identify six pillars of “critical food guidance” that are at the heart of the food-city nexus, and offer some suggestions for citizen engagement and people-centred food policy in an era of climate emergency.

Protest NATO Fundraiser with Paul Martin: NATO shouldn't be celebrated, it should be abolished
Fri. Nov. 1, 6 - 7 p.m.
Globe & Mail Centre, 351 King Street East, Suite 1600
The former Prime Minister Paul Martin is the keynote speaker at $250 ticketed fundraiser for the NATO Association of Canada. We will protest outside this event to “celebrate NATO”. We say NATO shouldn’t be celebrated; it should be abolished. The event is to raise money for the NATO Association of Canada, which also receives funding from US weapons giants Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics. This year is the 70th anniversary of this male-dominated military alliance and Cold War relic that threatens our security with weapons and war. NATO puts intense pressure on the Canadian government to increase military spending and is preventing Canada from joining the UN Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons. VOW is calling for the Canadian government to withdraw from NATO and work through the United Nations on disarmament and the Sustainable Development Goals that will bring genuine human security. No to NATO; yes to peace, nonviolence and sustainability! Organized by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace
