Day of Action Against Fighter Jets
Monday, Nov. 22 - Fri. Nov. 26
Beginning on Monday, a week of protests across the country will take place in opposition to the government’s plan to purchase 88 new warplanes. Designed to fight in NATO wars, the fighter jets emit significant amounts of greenhouse gases and will cost $19 billion ($77 billion over their lifecycle). These resources could be put to many other more socially useful endeavors. Please join one of the protests against the ecologically damaging and expensive warplanes Canada does not need. Find a rally near you:

National Housing Day 2021 - Community Action to Call for Social Housing
Mon. Nov. 22, 11 am ET
214-230 Sherbourne Street, Toronto
Join the call for social housing across the country. The federal government must respond with real assistance. In the City of Toronto, there are well over 8,700 people who are homeless, with emergency shelters full and over 1,000 people sleeping outside each night. On Nov. 22, we call on every level of gov't to act to solve the ongoing and worsening housing and homelessness crisis. We demand that the vacant property at 214-230 Sherbourne be turned into social housing and that the federal government build enough social housing to end homelessness across the country. Sign the petition for 214-230 Sherbourne at:

Democracy in Canada: Let’s bring it into the 21st century!
Tues. Nov. 23, 7:30 p.m. ET
Our democracy no longer works. First-past-the-post elections routinely create false majorities and ignores the democratic will of Ontarians and all Canadians. Municipalities are subject to the whims of provincial governments with disastrous impacts on Toronto and every community where minister's zoning orders (MZOs) ride roughshod over local planning. What does it mean for democracy when our system leaves so many of us without a voice?

Toxic Neighbour – film screening and panel
Mon. Nov. 29, 7 – 8:30 p.m. ET
Eugene Bourgeois had no concerns about nuclear energy in 1974 when he located his farm next door to the world's largest nuclear facility – Bruce Nuclear Station in Kincardine, Ontario.
Until, that is, his family and his sheep were frequently exposed to toxic gases released from the nuclear station, causing hundreds of their sheep to be blinded, born deformed, or killed. The industry denied wrongdoing, but Eugene dedicated the rest of his life to pushing his nuclear neighbour for greater transparency and accountability, and in the end, he won.
Watch the 50 min. documentary produced by Canadian filmmaker Colin Scheyen, to be followed by panelists that have dedicated their lives to holding the nuclear industry accountable for the wastes, costs and pollutants that they produce:
- Colin Scheyen, filmmaker of Toxic Neighbour
- Theresa McClenaghan, friend of the Bourgeois family and Exec. Dir. of Canadian Environmental Law Association
- Jack Gibbons, Chair of Ontario Clean Air Alliance
Watch the film’s trailer here: https://vimeo.com/609829443
This is a fundraiser for Ontario Clean Air Alliance. Suggested donation $10 or more (minimum $1).
