Ottawa Insurrection Has Roots in Pro-Pipeline, Pro-Fossil Convoy
Close observers are linking the occupation to past protests supporting pipelines and fossil fuels, digging into the white supremacist funding and logistics behind the convoy, and spotlighting the increasingly serious health impacts for downtown Ottawa residents exposed to round-the-clock noxious diesel fumes, deafening truck horns, and random harassment and intimidation in their neighbourhoods.

Decolonizing energy and the nuclear narrative of small modular reactors
Kebaowek First Nation is calling for an alternative to a planned SMR project, one that won’t undermine proper consultation and leave a toxic legacy. Decision-makers have become fixated on carbon emissions as a metric for “clean and green,” ignoring the radioactive impacts and the risks of accidents with the technology.

Why we face jail time for safeguarding a livable climate
In our efforts to stop tree-cutting at a TMX work site, two of us occupied trees, while four positioned ourselves in active work zones . . . one of us expects to be spending her 80th birthday in jail, and another his 65th. Our willingness to face jail time reflects our deeply held conviction that we need to act immediately to curtail fossil fuel expansion to prevent catastrophic climate change. “Canada! Stop building new fossil fuel infrastructure!”

Conquering Climate Despair
Many of those who fall victim to doom and despair would otherwise be the first people on the front lines … That’s what makes it so pernicious, this weaponization of doom and despair as a way to disengage advocates.

The Crisis in Accessible Housing
Sat. Feb. 19, 2 pm ET
There is no law in Canada requiring that any housing be accessible, even though more than 22% of Canadians have a disability. In addition, millions of aging Canadians are left out of this statistic because they don’t define themselves as having a disability, despite the struggles of their aging bodies (eyesight, hearing, mobility issues, strokes, heart attacks, etc.). How can we motivate all levels of government to work together to end discrimination in housing against seniors and people with disabilities? Hosted by Canadian Unitarians for Social Justice and the Accessible Housing Network.
