Get Ready: Responding to the Impact Assessment for NWMO's Deep Geological Repository

Mon. Jan. 12, 7 p.m. ET

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s plan to transport, process and bury all of Canada’s nuclear fuel waste at a site between Ignace and Dryden in northwestern Ontario will include 50 years of transporting highly radioactive waste and 160 years of operation, and will leave in place 150,000 tonnes of the radioactive waste underground in the headwaters of the Wabigoon and Turtle-Rainy River watersheds. A federal review of one of the largest projects in Canadian history commenced on Jan. 5, and the public has just 30 days to complete an initial review. Join this webinar for an overview of the review process, the NWMO's Initial Project Description, and key issues to consider raising during the 30-day comment period. The webinar's objective is to support public participation and preparation of comments for the Feb. 4 deadline.

What’s Going on with Federal IA? Public Engagement in Nation-Building Times

Thur. Jan. 15, 2 p.m. ET

The federal government, along with some provinces, are rewriting the rules to fast-track projects deemed to be in the national interest. Some of those rules, like Bill C-5, the Building Canada Act, do not require public participation in major project decisions. What do these changes mean for federal impact assessment and the public’s ability to have a say in decisions that affect them? Join Anna Johnston, John Sinclair, and Tina Northrup for this one-hour webinar about the changes and how the public can be meaningfully involved.
