Ottawa Innercity Ministries is an interdenominational non-profit Christian
charitable organization committed to building partnerships, training and
mobilizing volunteers to help people who are disadvantaged and homeless. Our
goal is to meet the spiritual, emotional, social, vocational and physical
needs of our street community, and to address and help prevent the causes of
poverty and homelessness with justice and compassion in downtown Ottawa. 

Responsibilities:

*  Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Youth Outreach Worker is
responsible for the development and implementation of a Youth Outreach
program which may include: Street Outreach to homeless/ street oriented
youth; a Youth Drop In; an Assets Based Community Development (ABCD)
program; education re-entry; job search; housing; organizing and
facilitating youth events; developing contacts, networks and referrals for
youth; and ensuring communication between youth, volunteers, the community
and Ottawa Innercity Ministries. 

*  The Youth Outreach Worker will maintain a complete system of files; will
produce reports, pamphlets, manuals and perform other administrative duties
as required. 

*  The successful candidate will seek to build community within the at-risk
youth population, to provide guidance, direction, crisis intervention and
opportunities for at-risk, street involved or homeless youth. The Youth
Outreach Worker will work in cooperation with the Managing Director and
Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, screen and train appropriate volunteers
and co-ordinate activities of the programs as they develop. 

*  The Youth Outreach Worker will discover, develop and implement innovative
ways to engage church or community groups with OIM in relation to youth
ministry. They will also represent OIM at Churches and Community Groups (as
needed), and share the ministry of O.I.M. to the Christian Community. 

*  As a member of the OIM leadership team, the Youth Outreach Worker will
also be called upon to help with, support and implement other programs of
the ministry. This may include Street Outreach, our current (and future)
drop-ins, ABCD programs and other programs as they may arise.

Qualifications:

*  Graduation with a degree from a recognized university, with acceptable
specialization in Social Services OR college diploma in Child & Youth Worker
Services/Social Service Worker OR an acceptable combination of education,
training and/or experience. 

*  Knowledge of Street Culture 

*  Knowledge of social, economic and health issues relevant to at-risk,
street involved or homeless youth 

*  Experience dealing with youth in conflict with the law 

*  Knowledge of O.I.M. vision, mandate, programs and services 

*  Ability to relate to & engage at-risk, street involved or homeless youth 

*  Experience with Street Outreach, working with at-risk, street involved or
homeless youth 

*  Ability to provide pastoral care 

*  Excellent verbal and written communication 

*  Conflict Resolution/Crisis Management skills 

*  Computer literacy: MS word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. 

*  Administrative skills 

*  Attention to detail 

*  Ability to supervise volunteers 

*  Bilingualism an asset 

*  Service orientation 

*  Ability to work with minimal supervision
