**************************************************

Imagine Ottawa would like to invite friends and neighbours from across the
city to attend the second annual Imagine Ottawa Social Forum, October 18 and
20. The Social Forum is an opportunity for people to learn, network, share
ideas, and collaborate on a path to getting the city we want.

-------------------------------
Thursday, October 18, 8 pm
"A Tour of the World We Need"

Chris Turner (author of Planet Simpson) will speak about achieving a
sustainable future as outlined in his new book, The Geography of Hope.
Following the talk, special guest Graham Saul of Ecology Ottawa will
interview Chris on stage. Adrian Harewood of CBC Radio One's afternoon
program "All in a Day" will be our Master of Ceremonies. Chris will be on
hand after the talk to sign copies of his book.

The evening is co-sponsored by Imagine Ottawa and the Ottawa International
Writers Festival (HYPERLINK
"http://www.writersfestival.org/"http://www.writersfestival.org/).

Admission is $12 ($10 for students and seniors) or free with a Writers
Festival pass.

-------------------------------
Saturday, October 20, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Social Forum

Our day-long Saturday program offers a wide variety of opportunities to
learn and participate. The morning session includes more than twenty
presentations in English or French. Some topics are:

 - urban agriculture (growing food on green roofs)
 - how the organic garden fosters community building
 - how to make Ottawa the green capital of Canada
 - Ottawa's Poet's Pathway
 - where things stand with Light Rail Transit
 - the First Nations proposal for a Healing Centre on Victoria Island

In the afternoon, we offer participatory workshops and a panel discussion.
Attendees can choose from revitalization of Ottawa 20/20 (the vision behind
the official plan), development of a Citizen's Agenda that will help focus
public dialogue, or a panel discussion on the Hintonburg Neighbourhood
Planning Initiative.

Admission to the Saturday program is free. Lunch will be provided,
generously donated by The Table Vegetarian Restaurant.

Child care is available, but you must pre-register. Call (613) 563-4922 for
more information and to reserve a child care space.

Both events will take place at Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper
St. at O'Connor. For more information, visit our web site at HYPERLINK
"http://www.imagineottawa.ca"www.imagineottawa.ca.

Ready to get more involved? We are looking for volunteers to assist with
on-site logistics for both events. Contact Leigh Thorpe at (613) 563-4922 to
find out more.
