Subject: Reminder for remainder of activities in Poverty Week on Oct 17, 18
and 20th

Hi folks,

This is a reminder about the remaining events on during Poverty Week in
Ottawa.

October 17th at the Anti-Poverty Monument at City Hall (Lisgar Street side)
at 6:00 pm will be the gathering for the 20th Anniversary of the
International Day for the Elimination of Poverty. We will including a
StandUp Against Poverty segment which is part of a two-day worldwide
mobilisation of people against poverty. Then there will be a few speakers
and we will walk in silence to Parliament Hill to remind MPP's, as they
begin a new session, that poor Canadians matter. This is a family-friendly
event.

On the 18th and 20th, Imagine Ottawa is organizing a Social Forum to look at
ways to develop a Better Ottawa. Both events will take place at
Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper St. at O'Connor. For more
information, visit our web site at HYPERLINK "http://www.imagineottawa.ca"
\nwww.imagineottawa.ca.

Thursday is the launch of a new book by Chris Turner, "The Geography of
Hope" which is about achieving a sustainable future. Adrian Harewood of CBC
Radio One's afternoon program "All in a Day" will be MC and the evening is
co-sponsored by the Ottawa International Writers Festival HYPERLINK
"http://www.writersfestival.org/" \nhttp://www.writersfestival.org/.
Admission is $12 ($10 for students and seniors) or free with a Writers
Festival pass.

Saturday is a day-long event (lunch included) and includes workshops and
discussion groups as well as a marketplace of ideas. Registration starts at
8:30 with coffee and the workshops get underway at 9:30. Child care is
available, but you must pre-register.

Call (613) 563-4922 for more information and to reserve a child care space.

For those of you who have been receiving my updates on city hall, the next
one will be out in the next week or so. I was diverted by the election but
will get to work on it shortly.

Hope you can join us at these events and please tell your friends.

Thanks,

Linda Lalonde.
