Multifaith Housing Initiative unit
With the assistance of government funding, MHI has purchased ten one-bedroom units in Somerset Gardens, located at the corner of Elgin and Somerset in downtown Ottawa. All of these units are to be rented to lower income households. One unit, an average market rent unit, is still available for rent (at $793 per month plus an estimated $50 per month for hydro), with occupancy in late November. It is one bedroom without a den. There is NO parking. The lease is for one year.
To qualify, gross household income must be less than the 20th income percentile - that is, $32,000 per year - and not expected to rise above this amount, except for annual increases for inflation. Therefore, this unit is particularly suitable for people already on a fixed income and who want to live in the downtown area without a car. The 2006 Tax Assessment must be provided as proof of income and annually thereafter.
Private Unit
One private unit is also available to rent lower income people. Rent for this unit will be between $800 and $900 per month, depending on the annual income. This unit is one-bedroom with a den. There is no parking. Occupancy is mid-December.
