Echoes in the Hallways
Youth Forum 2007

Saturday, September 29th, 2007
9:30am.  5:30pm.
Ron Kolbus Lakeside Gardens (Britannia Park)

We would like to extend an invitation to you, your organization and the
youth that you serve to take part in an upcoming youth forum that is taking
place in Ottawa.  The Youth Services Bureau has been given an opportunity to
sponsor a community forum to bring together youth and their adult allies to
engage in discussion on what’s working and how we can better support our
youth within Ottawa and the surrounding area.  This youth forum “Echoes in
the Hallway’s” is being held on September 29th, 2007 at the Ron Kolbus
Lakeside Gardens facility from 9:30am. - 5:30pm. 

The focus of the forum is designed for youth who have had experience within
one of our “systems” including the Child Welfare system, Youth Justice
system, Shelter system, and/or Mental Health systems or are at risk of
entering one of these systems.  Equally important is the adults connecting
to these systems whether through direct service delivery, management
personnel, presidents of boards or those who are responsible for policy and
program decisions within government.  Therefore we would like to encourage
you to attend the forum and participate in a day of open and honest
discussion on the issues affecting these youth.  The hope is to encourage
all levels of direct services, policy makers and the consumer to begin
building stronger bridges at all levels.  

Echoes in the Hallway’s is being presented by our Youth Engagement Program
and therefore is a by youth for youth project.  Four youth have been hired
to plan, develop, and implement the forum with the support of adult allies.
The program will definitely be energetic, creative and thought provoking and
will demonstrate the many talents and skills that youth have to offer.  

I have attached the poster and outline describing the event in greater
detail along with both the youth and adult participant registration form.
Given the space available at the facility we are only able to accommodate
150 people.  Our goal is to have 100 youth and 50 adult allies attend.
