Subject: Ontario referendum info sessions

Hi folks,

Along with the usual vote for a candidate in the provincial election on
October 10th, voters will be asked to vote in a referendum on the electoral
system Ontario should use in the future.

This is the first referendum in many years in Ontario and involves choosing
between two systems of electing MPP’s, one of which is new to most people.
Elections Ontario has hired a Referendum Resource Officer (RRO) in each
riding to do public education through information sessions in September and
until the election in October.

I am the RRO for Ottawa-Vanier and am working together with the other six
RRO’s whose districts include, in whole or in part, the city of Ottawa. We
are doing outreach to community groups, schools, seniors’ residences, social
agencies, etc. to try to get the message out as broadly as possible. We
would also like to present at any all-candidates meetings you are holding.

As part of Elections Ontario, we are non-partisan and so are not supporting
one option over the other. Our presentations will give you information about
the referendum itself and both options.

We have a presentation that takes about 15 minutes followed by any questions
people may have. If you would be interested in having someone come to do a
presentation, please let me know at RRO.OttVan at hotmail.com. The ridings we
cover are Carleton-Mississippi Mills, Ottawa West-Nepean, Nepean-Carleton,
Ottawa Centre, Ottawa South, Ottawa-Vanier, Ottawa-Orleans.

I hope you will take advantage of this service and pass the message on to
any other groups you may be involved with.

Thanks,

Linda Lalonde,

Referendum Resource Officer,

Ottawa-Vanier
