before the Council meeting this Wednesday, September 26th to ask them to
support the motion put forth by Councillor Marianne Wilkinson to amend the
budget process to include the receipt of public delegations at Committee of
the Whole during the week of December 10 to 14. 

 

Possible message:

I am concerned that this year’s budget process does not allow for meaningful
citizen input.  While some people may find it easier to attend ward
consultations in their geographic area, the format of those consultations
makes it difficult for them to put their views forward.  The advantage of
the public delegations at Committee of the whole is that citizens have time
to reflect on the material and prepare a presentation which goes into the
public record and is heard by all members of Council.  We recognize that the
long string of delegations has limited effectiveness but until a better
system of consultation is developed, the opportunity to present to Committee
of the Whole should not be lost.
