Subject: Please waive top up fare on Para!
To: Mayor Larry O'Brien <Larry.OBrien at ottawa.ca>, "Mercier, Alain" <
alain.mercier at transpo.ottawa.on.ca>,

 Dear Mayor O'Brien,

My name is Catherine Gardner and once again I am writing to you to urge you
to waive the top up fare required on Para for Senior & Community Pass
holders during the strike as this top up fare is creating a great deal of
financial hardship for these pass holders! I have already written to you
and Mr. Mercier at least twice in the past week regarding this matter and
have yet to hear back from either of you!

As you are aware the eligibility for the Community Pass was that the person
had to be a person with a disability on low income receiving ODSP and or
qualified for Para Transpo.

For those Senior and Community Pass holders who qualified for Para it was a
way of increasing their independence and for freeing up space on Para for
others, but most of all it was a pass which was a bit more affordable to
those living below the poverty level! Seniors and persons with disabilities
on low income are not provided bus fare and must pay for this pass out of
their already low income.

Senior and Community Pass holders who must now rely on Para are now finding
their income has gone down even farther as they are now being forced to top
up their pass with either cash or tickets. Please I am urging you to
consider waiving this top up fee so that these already vulnerable people
will not have to go without medical treatment or food as they are being
forced back onto Para through no fault of their own!

Surely with the $3 million being saved daily with the strike you could find
a few dollars to help out our Senior and Community Pass holders who must
rely on Para.

Thank you,

Catherine Gardner
