Bellwood Mobile Home Park is located in Bells Corners. There are 254 mobile
homes here. Recently they have found out that the owners of this park are in
the process of selling off the land to a private developer. This park has
been around for about 45 years. If the park sells and the new buyer chooses
to redevelop, all of the homes will be issued an eviction notice. They will
have 1 year to move their entire "mobile" house to another location. The
majority of the residents are senior citizens. Most of these trailer homes
can no longer be moved due to the age of the homes and the fact that many of
the homes have had additions to them. This does not even speak to the fact
that there is only less than a dozen or so mobile home site available in the
Ottawa region. The cost of moving a mobile home starts at about $25000.
These folks are facing a very long and overwhelming road a head. 

 

Despite all that, this is a truly amazing community. Even though they may be
facing very tough and trying times they were still able to show the children
of Bellwoood what community is truly all about. They held their 5th annual
winter carnival this past weekend to tremendous success. 

 

They have organized themselves as a community and a new association has been
formed   The Bellwood Community Homeowners Association. They have banded
together to fight for a cause that effects each and every household in the
park. They are examining and exploring all of their options at this time.
The community at large has shown Bellwood how much this community means to
them by flooding them with support of all kinds. Donations of food, gift
certificates, money, merchandize, office supplies & use of equipment,
meeting space, and time have all been given rather generously to this
community.
