[homeles_ot-l] Fundraiser play will help youth with mental illness

The Canadian Mental Health Association will present a special fundraising performance of Dancing at Lughnasa on Jan. 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ottawa Little Theatre, 400 King Edward Ave. (near Rideau)

It's a moving play by Brian Friel, set outside the village of Ballybeg in Ireland where the Mundy family struggles to make ends meet in 1936. Complex relationships and stirring passions help craft a poignant, compassionate tale. It stars, among others, CMHA staffers Lori Hodge and Heather Bruce (also the host of CKCU's Sound Mind radio show).

 

A portion of the revenues from this performance will go to Open Minds/Esprits Ouverts, an anti-stigma program that gives high school students the opportunity to hear firsthand the stories of people living with mental illness, as well as to become familiar with youth-friendly resources in the Ottawa area. With suicide being the second leading cause of death among teenagers, you can help us reach every teen with this message of hope.  There will also be a silent auction to raise additional funds.  

 

Tickets are $20 and can be ordered through the Ottawa Little Theatre (613-233-8948). Tickets will also be available at the door.
