It is time again to request research proposals from your agency,
organization
or group.  As we have for the past 10 years, the Carleton University School
of Social Work is requesting submissions for possible projects in research
and evaluation. The research will be conducted by students in the Research
and Evaluation Course in the Masters of Social Work program.  This course
meets once a week from September to early April.  All students entering the
program will have completed at least one full research course; some will
bring direct experience in research or evaluation.

If you have a project that is suitable for students, please submit the
attached one page request. The most important criteria are:
(1)	the proposal must be a project that will be useful for your agency,
community group or organization.
(2)	 the project can be completed in the time available (approximately 6
months)
(3)	 you do not have the financial or staff resources to do this work on
your own.

There will be approximately 50 students in the course, divided into two
sections. Students normally work in groups of  3 or 4, so we are looking for
about 12-15 projects.  Each group will be expected to complete one study or
evaluation in six months.  They will negotiate with you in
September and work out a collaborative process as appropriate.  The faculty
will participate in that process and work closely with each group.
						
Agencies will be expected to provide some basics for students to do the
work,
including access to information (such as files and records, as appropriate),
space, parking, access to photocopying and

telephones.  Someone from the organization will need to build in time for
ongoing liaison and supervision as needed.

Please submit your proposal in writing no later than Friday, August 15th  if
you are interested in having it considered for the 2008-2009 school year.
We
have attached a one page form to guide your proposal. Please submit the one
page proposal and if you wish to include supplementary information about
your
agency or project, we will make it available for students to assist them in
making their choice. Our contact information is listed at the end of this
letter.

We will then follow up with a phone call to explain the details of the
process we use with students and discuss any aspects of the proposal that
need clarification, if necessary. You will receive a phone call from the
students if your project is selected or a letter from us if the project is
not selected. We look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully, working
together over the course of the year.
